Took a pard to a gunshow
Sunday afternoon a friend and I went to the show at his request. He likes firearms, but doesn't know much about them. Afterwards, he thought I was an encyclopedia of factual info about all guns.
It was his first show; I wasn't trying to impress him, I just pointed out some things as we went along. When real experts speak I try to shut up. Anyway, it was refreshing to see someone so excited about it all. His wife keeps him on a tight lease about these things He has his heart set on an M14. Wait till he finds out I don't know anything about those. |

Rod, I know plenty about M14's...
Trained with them, taught others how to use them, gunsmithed them, accurized them, stood guard with them, defended positions with them, got muddy with them, showered with them and slept with them. It was like a wife for my first few years in the Army... I own a relatively new, beautiful walnut stocked Springfield Armory M1A (sorry not for sale)... If your friend has any questions, ask them in this forum. I will be glad to answer... I haven't forgotten much about them... (there is something about your first rifle, isn't there...).

John,
Why did you have to sleep with your rifle; did you like it that much or what DI did you "tick off"? LOL!!! I slept with mine during Basic a couple of time, but since I loved rifles, I didn't mind after I got the steel warm. ROFLMAO |

I only slept with my Uzi. Did put it on safe first. That particular gun was so bad that the safest place to be was in front of the barrel. It'd never hit anything in front of it..... I guess being in service, in the hands of conscripts for over 25 years, isn't very good for a gun.... |

Hey Guys, Sleeping with rifles sounds a bit strange to me. I'm sure that you know the old poem, "This is my rifle, this is my gun ------". TH

Tom, I guess you'd have to have been in the service, I slept with my rifle for training and for security (of it), then years later, slept with my colt 1911A1 and later the M9 pistol and gas mask for the same reasons

Marvin, for the reasons specified by Ed TInker... when on field duty, and you are sleeping, the rifle is your constant companion.... you are responsible for the security of your own weapons..
... and in a break-away sleeping bag, you should expect to come up shooting if you are attacked at night... I sure wouldn't want my rifle OUTSIDE the sleeping bag if someone were to sneak up while asleep! Besides, rifles are better than a woman in one respect... they ALWAYS do what you tell them to do.

About sleeping with rifles---Minta loves to tell the story about when her first husband brought home a brand new (and expensive) Mannlicher Schoenauer Rifle, laid it down on her side of the bed, and asked "Where are you going to sleep tonight?" Her reply was "I hope it knows how to cook breakfast!" Needless to say; it was removed very quickly.

John, I truly appreciate the offer. When he gets his wife's approval and decides to buy, I'll get back to you.
Bet he doesn't get to sleep with it! |
