Anyone getting a STG-44 (22 LR) carbine?

Was at my local haunt last night looking at some pistols and saw one of these just came in - on the rack for $550. "American Tactical Imports GSG Schmeisser STG-44 Carbine with Wood Stock" - Came home and found the same price online. As cool as this is, I just don't know if I can go $550 on a 22. Definitely wouldn't have any authentic feel in 22, but who wouldn't like having that sitting on your gun rack?

I don't know how many they will produce of this, might be worth getting just to have. I thought maybe there had been a replica produced in low numbers in the past, but I'm not positive.

I have seen the ads for this rifle, but have not laid my hands on one as yet. At $550, that is stepping up price wise, but it does look interesting, to say the least. I feel sure that it would be an attention getter at the range.

Yeah, I did an impulse buy. Very heavy for a 22lr.

Ive seen the ads for this as well......and just wish they had at least gone to .22 Magnum........a little more kick to it.......

I was at the South Carolina Arms Collectors show in Greenville this past weekend and the friend I was visiting acquired one for himself. I left for home before he had a chance to try it out. But it felt nice to hold. It is heavy.

One thing I would like to see is a small magazine as the one that comes with the rifle can be difficult if one uses a bench or a prone position to shoot it.

The rifle is easy to store. It comes in a wood crate - with the stock removed. Two pieces - but very easy to put together as only "one" pin is needed.

A close source tells me its going to be made in a true .30 cal rifle round in the near future.

There are several companies making them, including a German company. The problem currently is the price, in the $5K area.

Very nice. Saw a Thompson in 22LR this week at a shop and Citadel has the M1 Carbine out in 22LR (has been some problems with this one). So I second the motion for a MP40 and maybe a few others.

Yes, forgot the mention the heft - It does feel like you're holding a battle rifle, not a 22.

If they do make a .30 cal version, I would expect you'd multiply the 22 price more than a couple times.

That's what I thought ALANINT - I swore I had seen some 7.92x33 style reproduction above $4k at one point.

These are made in Germany by GSG for ATI as I understand, might be one in the same - ATI might be testing the waters?

I think I'll keep my eyes peeled for a used one at some point - not at all crazy about a 22, but it would be a lot of cheap shooting. I also didn't see that it came with a cool wooden crate, if I could confirm this is an LE, I would go snap one up.

PTR was selling a 7.62x39 version of this in 2009... IIRC it was close to 5K. OUCH!

At this year's Shot Show, they had a prototype of the MP-40 version. Slated for release in 2013 if they can get the final version working properly.

Did you get to see it? I read a statement (straight from GSG, IIRC) saying that they were going to add a dummy silencer to make the barrel 16" (just like they did on the MP5s). Sounds like a total turnoff to me, I would rather see a permanently folded stock... Or why not an SBR version?

I always though that the STG-44 was a unique gun for its time. I bet It would definitly be a coversation piece around the house. And a .30 cal bullet in it. Now thats awesome.

It looks promising! One of my L.E. friends once took a picture of me posing with the real deal but I never got to fire it.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but to sell it in anything but .22 in the U.S. they'd have to manufacture it here, right?

I just saw one of these at a local dealer yesterday, complete in its wooden packing crate! I really think this is the second golden age of firearms, as you can pretty much find anything that was ever made being remanufactured again.
