Have you noticed anything peculiar about sub MG's that fire from an open bolt??? I've fired several, at military FamFire exercises, and was quite surprised...I mentioned it in another thread; when you next visit this friend, fire an MP-40 or Thompson unsupported and tell us/me what you noticed...

I've put a few rounds downrange with both open and closed bolt subguns. Not sure what answer wins the prize today but far and away the open bolt guns are less accurate than their closed bolt counterparts and somewhat more awkward to sight in and fire. Of course with all of the things mechanical going on, and all of the moving parts slapping around and smacking into battery before the bullet starts its way down the barrel, kind of stands to reason that the open bolt design is inherently less accurate.

I would have also said they generally have slower rates of fire Like the Thompson and M3 but the MAC 10's spit out a goodly number of rounds per minute. Then there is the crudeness factor but the Tommygun is exquisitely built.

hmmmmm, Washington STATE is not on the list and it is NOT a high crime area, nor is it full of liberals. Seattle is about 220 miles from where my parents live and 300 miles from where I lived near the Idaho border. I wish every thread, especially a fascinating one like this could stay away from political comments?

I shot one for the first time a couple of summers ago. It was as much fun as I imagined

Also shot a Reising (loved it), but my favorite was surprisingly the MP18, it shot whatever I point it towards. Great fun!

I have a M1941 Johnson semi-auto rifle, a rare gun and I love it. Now I would like to have a Johnson LMG(second picture), rarer still. Anybody with one for sale? Johnson made some prototypes of the gun in the third picture, but I can't find out if they ever went into production, so I doubt it.

There was a guy at the Tulsa gun show in April wearing a Johnson T-shirt and he had a M1941 Johnson rifle, like mine for sale. We chatted for a minute and then I told him I would like to have a Johnson LMG, he got in my face and told me I wasting my time, they never went into production, he's the "expert" I guess, after all he has the T-shirt to prove it. I hope I can find him again at the November Tulsa show, I will gladly relieve him of a hundred bucks. The neat picture from 1942 are paramarines, cool caps !

You really should try an MP40. You are getting to an age..it would be difficult to hold up a Thompson...

I am listing this FG42 for a friend. This is a near perfect example of a second model FG. Numbers matching. I have test fired this weapon and it shoots perfectly. This is an original C&R gun. The scope and mount are original to the gun. The GI who brought this gun home lightly marked the selector positions above the grip. When you are not familiar with one of these guns ( like he was) it was the smart thing to do at the time. It could be easily removed but it would loose some of its history. I will not give the reserve price to anyone to keep things fair. Buyer to pay actual shipping and insurance. Terms are 50% down and 50% after the transfer is aproved by ATF. This gun is on a form 3 and ready to transfer.
