What do Luger collectors carry?

The direction the .32 thread took prompted this informal survey.

While I'm not small I find that most firearms/modes of carry don't work for me. I carry one of two pistols generally. The first is a 638 Smith in .38 Spl.. The other is the Kel-Tec .32.

The K-T has become my "always" gun. It's good for about seven yards or so fairly easily. A couple of different types of ammo work well and shoot to POA. At around a half pound loaded and resting in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster, it's no bother at all. Prior to that one the Smith went everywhere. It's accurate out to 130 yards if I hold my mouth right and dotes on Rem. 125 gr. +P Golden Sabers. This is an "Airweight" and carries well all day. I really like the shrouded hammer ("Bodyguard" style). It'd never have been replaced if my jeans pockets were slightly larger.

So, do you carry concealed? If so, share with us.

My wallet...!

649 S&W Bodyguard (riding my HD)

Sig 220 .45 ACP (fishing,etc.)

Walther PP .32 or .22(out and about in town)

Depending on the weather(lightly or heavily dressed) and where I am going.

Para-Ordnance P12-45...very well made Canadian and small for a .45. Accurate as all heck. 12+1 rounds in .45 ACP.

I carry two usually. You have to realize I live in Arizona and it is still "The Wild West." Been carrying a Glock 32 (.357 Sig) for years, but am weaning myself into my FN FiveseveN. At just over 1.5# loaded with 20 rounds of 2150ft/sec ammo, I think I will be prepared for anything I should encounter or I shouldn't be in that place in the first place. My backup gun is a S&W 642 CT in a Nemesis pocket holster.

I had a 640 .357, but a friend of mine went to work for a "bodyguard for hire business", and was looking for a good carry pistol, they require revolvers for reliability , so I sold it to him.

The 649 .38 Spec. is lighter and easy to carry in a M/C jacket pocket. And I love S&W revolvers.

Sometimes a stainless PPK/S in .380
Wouldn't mind having a 649, but haven't found a cheap one yet.

Ron, I love all guns, but particularly good Smiths. I chose a .38 simply because it is just enough shorter than a .357 snub that it doesn't peek out of my jeans pocket. I don't think one would notice the difference without something to judge it by objectively.

Really though a hot .357 in an Airweight probably wouldn't be pretty! I have a 2 1/2" 586 that's a pure joy to shoot, but it's just too big to conceal for me.

Jack, I have a Glock 27 (.40 S&W) I bought for concealed, but never did use it really for that. I've shot it twice in the last 8 years. It's the pistol I qualify for concealed carry with every four years. Really great gun, but it prints badly for me.

Pete, I've got a buddy in MN who love his Para. He moved away from my influence here and fell in with the jamamatic crowd.

Rod,

A 640 in .357 reqires a larger grip for recoil absorbtion. Which in turn makes it less easy to conceal. They are nasty with 158 gr loads, but controllable and not too bad with 125 gr.

I still prefer the .38 Spec in a small 649 size J frame revolver. I use 125 gr + P Gold Dots. They have enough snoose to get the job done.

Im with Ron mainly a model 60 . Heavy coat winter weather. Colt combat commander. But love my walthers. "Decisions Decisions" Sometime that neat little browning .25.

Decisions, decisions...I can relate. I used to carry a Walther TPH some till it became unreliable. Before I got that I carried a .25 made on the old Colt Junior/Astra Cub machinery sometimes. Quite a few others got experimented with at times as well.

Went up in the woods once to test fire a 1934 Mauser pistol. It was all that I had with me. While I was shooting I got that "something is watching me" feeling.

I stopped and turned to see a good sized Black Bear standing on his hind legs staring at me and sniffing. I was too far from the rig and had about 3 shots left in the magazine. I started yelling and waving my arms. He just stood there and looked. Finally I fired the last few shots over his head and started backing away toward my rig. He got the hint and left.

After beating myself up for being so stupid I decided that I would never venture out without this from then on.

S&W Model 57 .41 Magnum. My rather have it and not need it gun.

Actually I don't fret much about Black Bears, but Cougars are a different matter. They are sneaky and don't frighten all that easily if they are hungry.

I don't worry much about bears or cougars. I do like to be armed whenever possible, however, especially in the woods. At such times I carry a variety of guns depending on mood and circumstances. 454 Casull, .44 mag, and .45 Colt seem to comfort me most. I have at times relied on lowly .22's even in bear and lion country.

I've only killed one black bear. I've called in two mt. lions, one within 10 feet and the other 15 feet. At those distances a firearm is a comfort. Lotsa fun!

The model 640 S&W in .357 is my usual carry piece but when I go out in the "suit" I have the NAA mini revolver in .22 magnum .... better than nothing and it won't jam. .... Makes a big "boom" with the a big flash as well. ... and I think more "punch" than a .32 .... very easy to conceal.

Smith and Wesson 645 when serious, Browning 1910 7.65 with silver tips for formal occasions. Uberti replica 1878 Remington in 45 Colt when doing a belt carry in the woods, but I have been known to tromp around with my shooter luger in that quick draw Pistol Taschen when goofing in the wood also.

A quick picture of the classic American concealed carry pistol, the 32: the Colt belonged to a deputy sherrif in Harlan Ky, the nickel Iver Johnson my grandfather carried, the blue IJ belonged to a Cincinnati police officer in the 1930s as did the Armenius.

Reading this post I see that most have more than one ``carry piece``...

Here are my picks:

Long time favorite as primary: Colt's Lightweight Commander, set up w novaks night sights & 3 1/2 trigger....Option is a G19...

Usefull smaller packages: 380 PPk is 1st followed by a Mdl 38 Bodyguard

When discretion is mandatory a German .22 TPH is my choice...

And for camping, a 4 inch 29.......

Usually at least 2 pieces in custom leather by makers such as Null, Rybka, Horseshoe, Rosen.....with a happy mix of best available JHP / Glaser for urban work.....

A selection of ``carry pieces`` is a very personnal thing...
