Post 1940 navy markings

Hey all,
I am looking for some assistance.

I have recently acquired a mauser 1940 with 42 on the toggle, serial number 5931 over what looks to be an L. It is nazi proofed with code 655. On the back of the grip there is a navy marking N3877. I believe it to be authentic as the person I got it from is a member of the forum and he had it checked out and is reliable.

I know that the wrong mag is currently on the pistol and I am not sure which mag is proper for this pistol, the proof marked 122, 63 ,or fxo. If anyone has any info regarding the mag or the pistol it would be greatly appreciated.

John

Hi John, I would guess your Luger was shipped with 122 Code Magazines. All the Navy Lugers that I have seen from 1938 thru 1940 were shipped with the normal Military Magazine, then stamped with the Navy Property Mark at the Navy Depot.
