1937 P08 is it reworked?

Hello I just traded for a 1937 Luger with some things Im not sure about. The toggle is a byf code but the original SN has been removed and correct one added. the blueing was done after the grind and restamp. The side plate has same issue but the rest of the SN match. How do I tell if it is a east German rework or just a fake ?

does it have an import stamp?

what kind of barrel?

when you say sn removed and added -is it etched out with a line and a new one etched on? That is what I think of a east german DDR

well I don't know enough about the gun to know what an import stamp would look like. in the serial numbers in question look like they have been ground not stamped or lined out but there's bluing over the grind and over the stamp number that's on there now. I'm trying to figure out how to post pics on the site now.

Import stamp is required for import of military firearms into the USA, and include an abbreviated co. name, location, and caliber of the weapon.
If numbers are really ground away I'm GUESSING someone's hack job, as the Ruskies at least stamped X's thru offending numbers.
But good close up photos are a must.

I would look at the FAQ here on the forum

I would do a search for 'vopo luger' / and import stamp and reworked luger and all kinds f things.

If you are not sure what an import stamp is, I would do a lot of research

yes I'm currently doing the research on the gun this is my first Luger so there's a lot I don't know and as far as the name keillor that's my last name I appreciate all your fellas help and I'll try to get pictures on there soon as I can.

First of all welcome to this forum made by Luger's enthusiasts.
I think the best thing would be for you to try to read as much as possible on the actual type of Luger you'd like to buy, then I think would be essential to post some detailed photos to get some sort of opinion on it.

well after doing some reading I'm sure the gun is not remanufactured under Russian control. But the gun is a very good shooter cycle through amunition very well and my question is: should I leave the gun alone being it is such a good shooter or should I try to get other parts and make the gun look more accurate. As far as pictures I cannot get my phone to post pictures to this forum and I keep trying but I haven't succeeded yet.

My vote is to leave it alone. Finding matching parts is almost impossible. You will spend money and still have a shooter. Enjoy it and shoot h--- out of it. Sounds like a good shooter. Bill

I cycled 50 rounds through the Luger this afternoon no problems whatsoever I think I will take your advice and leave the gun alone just enjoying loving it.Maybe later down the road find a collectors piece thank you all very much for your help..If someone wants to see pics I guess I'd have to Email or text because I cannot load pics to this page.

If you have a P08 Luger that works reliably, and it is a "shooter" Luger, I would be hard put to change anything for fear of losing the reliability. YMMV
