ahh, you didn't mention that it had been deactivated. But if its all you can collect, I guess its what you go for...

Pics magnify defects. Taking that into account, it doesn't look all that pitted - I've seen worse linked here.

Plus, I like an honest Luger (or any antique...and any Luger is now an antique...)

OK, I've seen ads for deactivated guns before. Just what, exactly, is usually done to these poor machines to deactivate them?

I'd guess that some parts could be removed entirely, or maybe some are damaged beyond function (i.e. grinding the tip from the f.p.). Anyone know for sure?

yes, it depends on the country

On the luger forum is a complete picture by picture of what is done in the UK, it is different in different countries.

A sub-gun that is considered deac in europe is not legal here and I believe in Canada vs the US that is the same thing too (differences where it is not legal to have shipped to us)

I once bought a deactivated C96 Broomhandle. It had been 'deactivated' by putting wood plugs in the breech and muzzle, and putting a wee drop of liquid tube 'solder' over each. Guess how long it took to 'reactivate'?

I once bought a U.S. Rifle 1903A3 "Drill Rifle" that had been deactivated by having a steel rod driven into the barrel and then a small amout of weld to hold it to the inside of the chamber... I took me $50 to have a surplus barrel installed and headspaced for it to do more than close order drill... It is still in my safe, and looks real unusual to have all GI parts and the receiver is hard bumper grade chromed finish...
