Default 36' Navy with a plum extension

I came across a 36' dated S/42 with a very plum barrel extension. I have read that that later dated pistols (1939-1940) had this anomaly with the discolored extension but haven't seen anyone mention 36's as having it. This pistol looked perfect in all other ways (markings match, proofs were light but correct). An added benefit that this also was a N marked (rear grip) Navy and came with a Vogel Navy correct dated holster. Could the plum barrel extension on a 36' S/42 be correct? Thanks.

I am confused by barrel extension? Do you mean the receiver forks attached to the barrel? If this is so..is it Military proofed on the right side? Id the barrel serial matching to the pistol?

I'm skeptical. The plum coloring, at least that which I have seen, came only on the salt blued guns. The 1936 Luger should be rust blued with strawed small stuff.

As with others, I am kind of confused as to where the plum coloring is, but I have an early Weatherby rifle with plum coloring; that early on when I was concerned and inquiring about it, some folks said: "Bad deal and the value goes way down." I talked with a factory man and he said it's just the way the metal and the bluing mixed with age and that it makes it easily verified as to the year of mfg. and that most collectors would gladly pay a nice price to get that rifle to add to their collections as they are rare indeed.
These kind of oddities require some of the real experts to provide the "deep" thinking.
thanks

Yes, receiver forks. I have seen the fairly common plum coloring on 39' dated pistols with the salt blue, just curious if anyone has encountered an earlier 36' with the same discoloration. (which typically are rust blued). Everything matches on this pistol but I'm still highly suspect of it.
Thanks.

PICTURES Please... providing an opinion based on second hand observations or descriptions will likely prove worthless...

OTOH, the chances of a plum colored upper receiver in the year 1936 making it past the quality control inspectors is pretty darn ZERO percent chance...

Thanks John, unfortunately there are no pics as the pistol in question I saw at a show and no pics are allowed there. I have the sellers info just in case I decided I wanted it. Just too many questions arise with this one for me to own and keep so I'm passing on it. I'd like a WW2 Navy but I'll just wait to find the right one... the big Antique Arms show in Las Vegas is in a few weeks and I'll wait to see what I can find at that show.... many of the major Luger dealers will be there.
