Help ID commercial 12" barrel - Page 2

Thanks for your detailed reply Rick and I agree, I like to see pictures too in posts. The rear sight does not appear to be adjustable for windage. There is an indexing line on the bottom of the barrel and frame that aren't quite lined up. That leads me to believe that either this barrel or one previously was on this frame. As you say, If I could file a bit off the barrel shoulder, the barrel could twist that 1mm more and I'd be in business.

Would you guys trust this job to a competent regular gunsmith as opposed to one that is a Luger specialist and has the appropriate tools?

Thanks for the recommendation Lugerdoc, I may try to contact them if I cannot find someone local.

The barrel to upper fit, as Rich mentioned, is an interference fit, and not easily accomplished with a file, it really needs a lathe to make this adjustment. Sending the assembly to G.T. for the adjustment--which amounts to the same moves you'd make to change barrels--is something I'd recommend. A ~9mm barrel rod might not be that much of a problem...but I'm afraid the competent "regular" 'smith would not have the barrel vise, receiver wrench, or receiver reinforcing block on hand unless he has properly changed Luger barrels previously. They'd need to be sourced or made from scratch. These are specific to the job to prevent damage to the parts. Moreover, each different barrel length would present a slightly different taper, requiring specific inserts made for the taper being addressed. G.T. has already put in the "head-scratchin'" time, which saves subsequent clients from at least part of the expense of creating the tooling. A few bucks for shipping and a week or so to wait are well worth it, IMHO!

Thanks very much guys! Excellent advice and I think I will get in touch with GT. I have learned the hard way trying to do some things myself and having an experienced eye working on it is the ticket! Thanks again for your advice! Adam.
