Default DWM serial number 510

I recently came in contact with this pistol, it's a DWM, serial number 510 on the frame and slide, all numbers on the pistol matched "10" except the firing pin, it a "12".
The grips are aftermarket with silver inlays and so was the mag.
As you can tell I do not know much about Lugers, I would appreciate your help in determining the approximate year of the pistol and what it is worth, being that it is not matching.
The pistol was very heavy compared to a later model, finish appeared original but very dull, the bore looked great, very shiny. thanks, Robert

Welcome to the forum, Robert! Please post photos, as this is the best way to help you figure out what you have. Were there any letters accompanying the serial number, or just the number? any other markings you can tell us about?

Welcome - I made it so you get notified from postings.

Every military luger had serial numbers that were 'exposed' (see FAQ) while commercial lugers have less markings.

And every 10,000 lugers the serial numbers started over; so a sn 510 could be made in 1902 or 1937

More info and pictures would help very much

Thanks Doug,
No I didn't take any pictures, the pistol was left at a local shop for cleaning. I was told the owner inherited the pistol from his deceased father, and was thinking of selling it. I would have put a bit more interest if it would have been matching with the original grips.

You don't give us a lot to go on, but to be conservative, considering the grips, questionable finish and mismatched pin, let's call it a shooter. 9mm or .30 cal?
Based only on the info. provided, don't get in for more than about $900 tops. If they decide to sell, get photos and we can sharpen the pencil a bit.

Thanks Ed, David

I was just curious, I should have taken a couple of pictures, but I was not really interested on this particular pistol.
About a month back I started collecting Lugers. It started with idea of buying just one wartime Police Pistol. needless to say I'm on my third, (39E/K, '40E/C, 41E/L ) good thing the wartime Lugers were just from '39 to '42. otherwise I would be in trouble. I need a '42.
Thanks again,
Robert

Wellll, depends on how you look at it?

Do you own a Krieghoff 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944? - a very few were used by police

And many, many tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands) were used from pre-WW1 to Weimar era

I think Robert meant a police Luger for each of the 4 years. I am curious about the other war years - 1943, etc?
Just my three cents.

Would be nice if he could post some pictures just to have an idea of what we're talking about.
