Talking My retirement funds are in jeopardy

Yes, I am about to get loose and dangerous with savings.

I just received my C&R license from the ATF folks. Now when I look at all the on-line gun auction and sales websites, I can have more immediate satisfaction and an impulse to buy guns. In IL one has to normally wait three days after a purchase to possess the gun. Plus I have to have it shipped to a FFL for the obligatory wait and extra $15-25 fee. Screw that!

But, no more. I am free to blow more money.

I have been looking for the right reason for a three hour road trip to Simpsons, LTD and hassle free buying. This noob collector has new found freedom.

Be very careful how you use your new found super powers. These powers are addicting.

May the Force be with you!

I took me 4 weeks, three years ago. I enclosed a copy of my Florida Concealed weapons permit> That was a different time in America. Its worth the wait no matter how long it takes!! Eric

It took less than a month. I was surprised when it arrived so early.

I asked my county sheriff (a friend) to serve as my CLEO and actively support my application. Maybe that made a difference. I already have my IL CCW license; that may have helped, too. Of course, I have an IL FOID (firearm owner ID) card that is required to possess any weapons or to buy ammo.

My father had a C&R license before he passed, many fine weapons were purchased under it. Just be careful when you go to Simpsons Ltd, they have quite a selection!

Enjoy your newly gifted "rights", but be advised that many sellers/dealers don't recognize the C&R. Also be careful not to use it as a license to do business. That never ends well...

They do actually have a time limit, and I believe the law says that they are required to handle it within 30 days. My FFL application dragged out for 6 weeks, so I contacted ATF to see what was going on. This obviously stirred them up quite a bit, I got several emails and phone calls from people at different levels trying to figure out why it hadn't been handled yet. Two days later I had an agent in the house for the interview, he apologized for the delay and issued the FFL as soon as he got back to his office.

Just call them and as why it's taking so long, if you're lucky you'll have your C&R within a few days.

David, thanks.

You would be correct about running a business. I have no intention to engage my hobby at the business level. But, you make a good point.

Olle, I recall the ATF website mentioning a timeframe, but I thought that was just a guideline, but it may have been a requirement. I was shocked when it came in the mail so quickly.

Olle, I will be visiting and traveling through the great state of TN next week. I have a business conference in Nashville, my adopted home town and where I went to school (Go Vandy) and then I'm heading to Asheville, NC for some vacation time. My Swedish fiancé will be with me.

Lastly, any "must stop and see" LGS along I-40?

Eugen,
If you are in Asheville Aug 12/13, you could drive 30 minutes east to Morganton NC(on I 40) and join us for the North Carolina Gun Collectors Show that weekend.

We're just off I 40, at exit 105. Exit and turn left = North on Sterling St. toward down town.
We are in the Foothills Exibition center, 2/10 mile from the interstate on the left!

Be sure to ask for the "President" of NCGCA when you arrive! That would be me, I may get you in for free.

Wow, Don, that would be a great event to attend and a chance to meet an active forum member. Regretfully, I will be in Asheville, NC on August 2-4th and then I head back home. But, thank you so much for thinking of me. Granite Falls and Hickory area of NC is my ancestral home. Neat area.
