Default 1938 luger

My grandfather brought home a 1938 luger with holster when he came home from the war. He said that his outfit gave chewing gum to german children for information on hidden weapons as the Germans were retreating. These kids directed his unit to the local swimming pool in some town. There he said there were cases of new Lugers in the pool. He said that this is where his came from. Has anyone heard of a similar story and does it sound plausible. I inherited the gun and it is very nice.

I suspect that hiding cases of new lugers in a swimming pool would not be healthy for the lugers and also suspect that the story, like many like this, is fabrication.

Not if there wasn't any water in it, which wouldn't be unusual in wartime.

Thank you for your responses. I do not believe there was water in the pool. My grandfather said it was new when he found the gun and he subsequently carried it throughout the war.
