Eugene, lots of fakes out there, not that I know this is, but that you have to be very careful.

Should be someone who knows...

The inscription in the triangles I'm not familiar with unless they stand for the SS ruins but the other one with the six point design is the unit identification for the 6th SS Gebirgsjager Div. H Himmler inscription is in the form of his actual signature, a facsimile, and the recipients name is either Webber or Winkler....I say it's Winkler. Date 21-12-40 would have been the presentation date. As for authentic..................??????????????????????????????? My bet, yes.

My mistake on the unit designation in this case, it had a different usage on an SS Honor Ring.

Value, don't know but I'd get in touch with these folks:

http://www.philipp-militaria.com/

http://www.wwiidaggers.com/welcome.htm

http://www.emedals.com/

Rank... no idea on the ring, doesn't show.

Rare, according to the wiki info I posted above but it depends a lot on condition like everything else, it affects the value.

Name in records, I'm sure it does somewhere but which 'Winkler' is the question but putting the name together with the presentation date and you have something. I'm sure those sites I gave you, they would have all the reference books available.

Make sure to send along the photos of the ones you posted above.

Good luck........find out which Winkler it belonged to and you might have something real nice to someone.

There is a long list of SS personnel at -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_SS_personnel

You should be able to find someone to match your ring...

You can find out more than you ever want to know there.
These things are heavily faked like all nazi stuff these days.

You have to pay a bit in order to post pics, but usually someone will volunteer to do it for you.

The prices for these would certainly lend them to being faked!
