Post Recent Tulsa Gun Show...

Just remembered I did not post about the Tulsa show :

1. Great to see some LF members from the past and to meet LF member Sam Buscemi and join him and some other luger nuts for a great Italian dinner (at a place called Ti-Amo...which is worth visiting often...).

2. Picked up an un-issued Sauer 38H police-marked holster and the most factory-new 1900 Swiss insert-type magazine (thick follower button) I have ever seen. Still looking for that right M1900 Swiss luger, though. But now I have a 2nd. magazine, anyway...

3. The concrete floor was hard and as punishing as I remembered from the past. Sensible shoes help...but so did some pain medication taken every few hours. I just do not know how the older collectors do this show...

4. The upper exhibit floor was well laid-out and aisle spacing allowed 4-5 folks abreast. But the lower floor was like an over-crowded, 3rd. world country. Way too crowded with narrow aisles that only allowed 2 people to pass abreast...really made for slow walking...

5. Most of the luger dealers were there : WOL's, Fred Feit, Simpson's, FGS, Adams, etc...

6. John Eckert's luger display was wonderful, as usual. Got a chance to see the "N1034" VOPO luger pistol he has that he postulates was made by the VOPO folks as a "new" luger production run...around 100 or so as a feasibility production run. Mr. Eckert theorizes these 100 may have been made by past HK luger factory staff, possibly on old HK machinery. Fit and finsh of this N1034 was very crude and rough, but the hole in the toggle knobs did have the typical deep bevel as the HK lugers do...

7. Got to see C. Kenyon running from table to table but never had a chance to introduce myself.

8. Went home with money in my pockets since a Swiss luger I was hoping would be at the show was not...

9. Heard that there was a 1910 (yep...1910...not a typo...) DWM artillery floating around the show, but missed it amongst my travels. Heard the owner was looking to have a few experts look it over...

10. Not too many decent luger holsters on the tables. Suspect many disappeared on the dealer set-up day...

11. Lots of lugers on the tables...many refinished...the cheapest luger I saw was a decent, matching Erfurt that had a hard black chrome finish with an asking of $ 475...

12. Somewhat disappointing was the inflation of asking prices of lugers at the show. A local gun shop near me in San Jose always as the same 3 lugers for sale in their shop at $ 950-975. All three exact guns were priced on their table at the show at $ 1275 each. Noticed this with some of the big dealers as well. Some asking prices were $ 500 and more than their current published lists or web sites prices...

13. Heard from one dealer that not too many lugers were available for sale on the dealer set-up day and not too many walk-ins either. Wonder if the lugers coming out of collection are beginning to slow down...?

14. For a west-coast fellow, Tulsa would not be on my dance-card regularly except for the fact that my bonus-miles/frequent stay points usually pay for the trip 100%. But I think I will pass for a year or so...need to forget how much my feet/legs hurt before I consider walking that 11 acre building again...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Pete
I hope you feel better by next week.
We would not want you to miss Reno. I am sure we can find you some pain medicine there. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" title="" src="graemlins/drink.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Hey Russ,

No worry about Reno...one can always get those ice cold, liquid pain killers there...
