Default Luger in "Wings" Movie

I just watched the 1927 movie "Wings". In one scene Richard Arlen has crashed in a river and a German officer is waving a Luger (I think) at him. What do you think?

Wouldn't it have to be a Luger??? P-38's were far in the future, in 1927...

Looks Luger shaped to me, with a hint of a toggle in the right place...
