Question 1900 AE?

This one is SN 18096, marked GERMANY under the serial on the frame. Barrel(bottome), sideplate(bottom), rear toggle, Barrel is 4 & 3/4" 7.65mm Parabellunm. Trigger matches, bottom of underlug on receiver matches, missing the ejector, flaming bomb proof on front of inside of frame well. Take down lever matches. Non matching magazine. Bore is fair/good. Underside of DWM toggle link has matching number. Moderate pitting on right side from muzzle back to the breechblock. Inside of receiver shows blue not white steel. Other small parts are blued. Finish looks like a drab gray like a parkerized finish. Grips are original and very nice and clean. Gun appears to be a 1900 AE but serial is out of range of Kenyon's LAR. Deep roll mark eagle. This is a restorable Eagle IMO. What is worth in its current condition. Owner wants to know before I do anything else. Main spring appears very good. No browning shows under finish, bluing looks like it is over moderate pitting. Thanks!

Question

Thor,
Can you give a good view of the frame well that clearly shows the "Flaming Bomb Proof" mark .
As of now, with much aid from others, I have identified impressions of three different die punches of the German "Flaming Bomb Proof".
Anything that you can add will be appreciated.

My reading of Kenyon is that 1900AEs are in the 2000-20000 serial range. Have I missed something in your question?

I bought my non-collection-worthy 1900AE two years ago for $700. Worth of the gun as you describe is certainly not $1k. Whether or not you could easily buy one for that is another question entirely.

Imho.

Thanks Dwight, the owner now seems to want to sell if after I fix the ejector. I was in hope of restoring it but alas it seems that is not meant to be, at least not by this owner.

Talking

Viggo, this proof is pretty hard struck and it appears the outline of the flames are gone due to the depth of the strike. This is the frame well mark near the take down lever well.

Viggo, I am in a lucky position, I see hundreds of Lugers, some really bad, but some only bad in spots. So I get to see proofs, different type of finish and some REALLY BAD restamps. "My Luger is all matching........yea....right!!" Some of those restamps have fonts that are TWICE as big as they are suppose to be, and jumbled up, and the wrong font. Sometimes when I get in a specific variation that has specific milling/polishing patterns and depth of polish marks I will map it on an ID sheet so I get it back as close as I can. I am working on a 1921 DWM Baby Luger right now. This one is going to be QUITE different, more on it later.
