To get back to the original question; a shooter.

My opinion: Don't use a matching numbers Luger as a shooter regardless of the maker being DWM or Mauser.

Find a non matching numbers Luger in good condition and use that as a shooter. It's more economical and you won't "destroy" a good collector's item

BTW Mauser Lugers are just as collectible in my opinion. Especially the last ones from 1942.

I hold a different opinion about matching-number Lugers for shooting. Matching numbers for an operational Luger are as important now as they were when the gun was new--it is an assurance that it will work properly. An unmatched shooting Luger is an invitation for operational problems.

I agree that many WWII Mauser Lugers can be of collection quality, in regards to either their specific marking rarity, or the preservation of their finish, or both.

Some of these models are very common, however, many tens of thousands manufactured; and can be found in a finish condition which makes them unattractive for a collection. It is these Lugers, with matching numbers, which are prime candidates for shooting.
