Interesting luger between the barrel and what looks like an arty sight on the toggle.

Strangest looking thing I've seen in a while. The rear site looks all wrong; shouldn't there be teeth on the rail to keep the slider in position.

I'm not sure how the sight's attached, but it doesn't look to permanent to me ! Someone had some fun modifying it but not I'm not impressed enough to fork over $700 + for a hobby special.

But wait, the 'factory' grips must be worth double that at least..............

Those grips sure look like they were one of the various styles and colors that were made by Sile of New York back in the late 60's and early 70's. Original grips expertly covered with plastic, I doubt that.

OK guys, you can laugh you self to death when I say this, but I sort of like the pistol. The grips are "pimpish", but I like the looks of the rest of the pistol. It is strictly a shooter, but having "Thor" work his magic on the pistol, and a nice set of Nile grips would make this a nice looking pistol.

OK, you can begin laughing at me now, but I still like factory standard best!

I like this one as well as a shooter.

Looks like some thought when into the design of the front sight and its coordination with the rear sight.

It looks like those plastic grips might have a layer of laminated wood underneath the plastic top coating...as viewed in one of the photos on side view...

I suspect that the grips are not plastic, but may be a composite ivory compound, ivory scraps ground to powder and suspended in resin.

Pete described the grips accurately. Those are the old Jay Scott grips with a stained and laminated birch base with a plastic overlay. They came in stag, ivory, black pearl and white pearl. Nothing original about them, but they fit well and wore like a pigs nose.

Looks to me like the rear sight was silver soldered onto the toggle... I don't know how long that arrangement would last in shooter...

Well, I am glad to see that Pete likes the pistol too. Now I don't feel so bad about me liking the Luger. I think I will watch the auction on this one too. If it was a little cheaper, I might have bid on it and have Thor do a nice restoration. What a neat shooter this would be.

I still can't believe I like the pistol, LOL!

I can't get to Gunbroker from this computer (firewall) but if the price comes down, I would certainly be interested for a shooter. With the price the guy is asking, I feel it is still too much. What do you guys think it is acrually worth; I think in the $800 range???????

Let me cast a cold eye on this gun. It is an altered, mutilated Luger. The Artillery rear sight has been modified in such a way that it can never be salvaged to serve on an LP-08. In my rather brutal opinion this is a $500-range Luger on a strictly retail basis, and might pass for less between friends.

Dwight I agree with your assessment of the value. The Sile or Jay Scott grips (both made this variety) are not of any particular value ($25-35) and the rear toggle would not be unnoticeably restorable... it had to be modified in some form to accept the silver-soldered on sight that was made from a real artillery sight... possibly from the same gun. I think this gun may have been one of those with a damaged 8 inch barrel... THe modifications as I can see them from the limited photographs we have available are that the muzzle was cut off, the barrel was recrowned and the rear sight base ground down to the "stepped" appearance that we see, and a commercial rifle front sight base was addes with an appropriately tall front blade.

An interesting shooter... nothing more...IMHO

Thanks for the information guys!!! Been away from Lugers too long I guess, LOL. Tomorrow when I get home, I may try to see what the guy will sell it for. Since he is asking MUCH more than it is worth, he probably will not take the offer, but what the heck, all he can say is no.

I never believed I would have said I like the pistol, but I do. I HATE the grips though, LOL, they would definelty be replaced.

Marvin, you might wait until you have them in your hand to make a decision os replacing the grips... if you have a large hand, I remember that these grips are a little thicker than standard grips, but that said, they did feel pretty good in my hand.
