Hello there,

Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum..
I'm 23 years old and live in Vienna, Austria.
Mostly I'm into military bolt action rifles but since there are not so many rifle ranges over here I started pistol shooting too.
Last saturday I got my first parabellum (luger) pistol.
It's stamped s/42, so assume it was produced by mauser. Date is 1938 and it is in overall good to very good condition except the barrel is partially pitted. I payed 390 USD for the pistol the original magazine and 2 reproduction magazines.

HEY THERE

I AM NEW THIS FORUM AS WELL. JUST FOUND IT. IT IS NICE TO SEE SO MANY LUGER FANS. I HAVE I 1912 ERFURT IT IS THE FIRST HANDGUN I EVER PICK UP AND HIT EVERYTHING I AIMED AT. I HAVE HAD IT SINCE 1989 AND HAVE NOT FIRED IT SINCE 1990.

Hi Edward

I tried to take some pics,but my camera is a little outdated and they would not be clear enough for the fine detail needed.. But here is a dicription s/n 39xx a number under the s/n on the barrel 8,83 all parts stamped 55 with all proof markings of that time slight wear on bluing. a little pitting on side plate andÃ?Â*very slight pitting on muzzle. rifling is very fine. At some time this gun seen alot of rounds.
I thought about parting ways with this luger but can't seem to do it ya know what I mean.

Birdman, here is a quickie back;

1. The 8,83 is the land to land for the rifeling

2. The parts stamped 55 is the last two of the serial number, this number should be on many different parts.

3. Can you give us more information?

Types of proofs or markings on right and left? If you came through www.lugerforum.com then on your left is a technical section that can help you out.

Is it marked as to a suffix under the serial number?

Does it have anthing on the toggle (on the top part of the gun)?

Is the receiver marked with a number, such as 1918, 1942 etc?

Hey Ed

It is a Efurt 1912 with the Erfurt crown and all the proof marks of that time as per the proof marking under the technical section.. but it does not have any suffix and is not reconditioned.

Sounds like a nice pre-war gun. I have a 1914, but a 1912 is getting although back to the oldest ones.

Hello,

Congratulations on that great find: a Pre War ERFURT....pretty scarce....1912 Second year of ERFURT Production approx. 22 000 pistols that year. Dont worry if it's a little bit rough...ERFURTs were known not to be as nicely finished as DWM ( not too many collectors of ERFURTs ) Get some PICS of your pistol!

Birdman, it is really hard without detailed pictures. With slight pitting, it brings the value down. I don't know how "rare" a 1912 is compared to a 1918, but I imagine they are rarer. Look at it this way, a "shooter" value is approx., $450 - $600, and collectable guns are anywhere from $600 - $900 and up, all depending on condition, condition, rarity and condition. Of course it depends on if all matching, reblued, bad pits, etc.

Hello BIRDMAN,

On the ERFURTS: Pre War are hard to find and common ones are dated 16 to 18...I m still looking for a 1911 ( 1st year of ERFURT Production )....quite hard to find....

I prefer Pre War as I find them nicer ( without the stock lug

also production was around 20 000- 25 000 a year compared to late war when they were putting out about 150 000 pistols a year...

Values of Pre War are higher, all things considered. Scarcer ones being the 1911 & 1914 ( 4 inch )

In any case you have a great piece of early P-08 history...

PICS would be nice....
