Default What is This?

I recently inherited a DWM luger and I was wondering if someone could tell me what the markings on the inside of the grip frame are.
It is marked 119.R.M.G.49. Any help you could give would be appreciated.

Michael, welcome to the forum. This appears to be a WW1 marking and will let others look it up (I am at work).

It also helps to know what era / type of luger this marking comes from.

Obviously it must be marked DWM.

Are there any date stamps on it?

Is the R letter like the rest, or is it stylized kinda like this R?

Approximate serial number to include suffix on the front of the frame?

Ed

Chamber area is not dated. Small parts are not numbered, which i think means it was a commercial folded into the military. serial number 7799A.

Hi Michael,

119th Infantry Regiment Machine Gun Company weapon #49. Early in WWI most Regiments had only one machine gun company. Later on they had 3 or 4 MG companies per Regt. Yours is an early marked to the first and only MG company.

Does your Luger have a stock lug on the heel of the grip? It's possibly a 1908 1st Issue without a chamber date, not a commercial.

Ron

The small parts are probably numbered on the bottom commercial style. The "a" suffix indicates that it is a military and not a commercial so Ron's observation that it is a 1908 First Issue is most likely.
