One $ per Luger....

Hi everyone, I was thinking that maybe we could all contribute one dollar for every Luger that we own towards the operation and maintenance of our LugerForum. Easy for me--I've usually got four bucks in my pocket almost any day! John D. never asks for any money, but I'm sure it costs plenty to keep our site up and running and hacker-proof, so how about it everyone? And while we're at it, maybe John D. could give us some idea about what it does cost to keep this favorite Forum of ours working so well. I realize that the "one dollar per Luger" could be a real bite for some of our members (sorry Ralph), but I suspect most of us can afford it. And with over 2,000 members, we could really bring in some good support funds for our Website. And after all, "tis the season".

I know about how much it costs for a year, and I'd guess it is the cost of two Weimar Police Pistols EACH year... Or One Krieg every 1.5 years

If John would start a Paypal account, we could drop in a "fee" or yearly / monthly amount, they do it at another site I visit... They call it a "war-chest" for operating expenses...

Hi Folks....

First - my thanks to Doug for suggesting this in private first. As most know - there are no Sponsors, no banners and no advertising on this site - nor for the P38 and PPk/S sites. I do it as a Collector and an enthusiast - as much as you folks are the same collectors. However - honestly - the costs of running this site continue to increase. As many of you know - I put in new circuits a few months ago, which double bandwidth. As well - for all the firearms forums sites - they actually run across 3 different servers - and three seperate circuits.

So to all pledging support of the site - my sincerest thanks. And to those who have supported this site - you can see "LugerForum Patron" in their title. In that way - I guess the right analogy is the site will always be free and open, like PBS - but those who find value will get some special recognition - just as my way of saying "thank you".

Also - if you'd like to use Paypal - you can use my e-mail address of johnd@rennlist.com for Paypal.

As well - one of my first priorities to to buy a software license to change the features and format of this Forum. It's expensive - and I run it in another car Forum I host - but it has some compelling features whoch are lacking in this Forum software.

Finally - as for me, I just took on a 3rd part-time job to help pay for all this fun. BUT - I have to tell you, it's a TERRIFIC job. I just took on a part time position in a gun store for the first time ever. It's incredible, as on the floor at any time are over 50-60 customers - over 100,000 firearms in inventory - and a constant flow of trade-ins, which include (not as often) Lugers and collectors firearms. I've been asked to be the advisor for any Lugers that come in - so even as a part time sales professional - it's got it's rewards....

Again - my thanks for your post, Doug - and the support of the Members who have posted....

Ed, John D...I can and will be happy to. This subject has been kicked about before and John has always been adament about no help. I have always thought this was stingy on his part...not letting us help! He gets to spend just his money! Since he posted his Pay Pal info I guess he can't stop me now can he?

If Ed is pitching in 20 bucks and work on the Forum for hundreds of unpaid hours I guess any one can do as much.

Years ago, when I was learning the gunsmithing end of the business, I worked in a small SF Bay Area store for no pay, but I was given a glass case to sell my stuff and had first option on any German pistols that came in. That's how I purchased my one an only Borchardt for $2500, but that was 30 years ago. TH

I actually am working just over minimum wage at the gun store - so I have you beat there a bit <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> However - honestly, while the salary is important right now, I can honestly say it's the first job I've had where I love the work! While I keep waiting for a wayward sole to walk in with a minty HK, in the meantime - there are many P-38s, WW2 HPs, and "shooter Lugers" that do come in - and as you had - I have the privilege to review them first before they "hit the sales floor" while I'm at work. A Borchardt at $2500 probably isn't happening in today's terms - but I can hope if one does come in, itâ??s brought in at a reasonable price!!!!!

For those of you who have never used Pay Pal, I recommend you try it if you get the chance. It is easy to register and very handy for sending money, not only for Ebay but for most anything. I believe they have restrictions on guns and I don't agree with their politics but it is a useful service on occasion.I think they are owned by eBay. There may be a better service and if anyone knows about one let me know.

I just used the PayPal system, and it was user-friendly and seems to be foolproof.

I am dropping out of Paypal. There is a $2000 total spending limit for purchases on eBay. Once you reach that cumulative limit you may not use Paypal unless you become "confirmed" by providing Paypal with your bank account information. I do not feel there is any legitimate reason for this invasion of privacy. All my purchases through Paypal are billed to my credit card. Since Paypal has my credit card account information, they can check on my credit status and confirm that my bills are paid completely and on time. Access to my complete banking records serves no purpose other than opening up another possible avenue for nuisance offers for unwanted services and possibly fraudulent use of the account. Even though Paypal probably deserves a good reputation for security, there is no excuse for subjecting its users to another path to identity theft.

I have a Savings Account that I leave almsot nothing in, and set up for this purpose. In that way, I can swap money from paypal if I have sold something and put money into paypal, all on-line and I check / verify the amounts all the time.
