Default Reeds Custom ammunition

Found a website advertising .30 Luger ammunition. The ammo advertised is loaded with an 86 grain soft point bullet and is clocked at 1400 FPS. Has anyone ever tried this ammo? Does it even sound safe for a .30 Luger to shoot?

Here's the link: http://shop.reedsammo.com/30-Luger-8...Lug86gRNSP.htm

They say the ammo is held to SAAMI pressure specs.

That sounds awfully hot to me. I handload for my 30 Luger handguns, and I use some Hornady 86gr FMJ in some of them. I try to keep my loads around 1050-1150FPS. I would not be interested in running those handloads through my Lugers.....just my opinion. There have been a couple of handloaders on this forum that did load to that velocity.....I believe one was Hugh Clark(grip restorer).

I tried some of the JSP bullets to load, and my Lugers didn't like them and I had FTF problems. I stick with the FMJ. Again, I am giving you MY experiences, and other folks will give you theirs.

Thank you for the reply. I've primarily shot Fiocchi through my .30 Luger and never had a problem, even with the JSP rounds. I am somewhat leary of using ammo from another company, and it seems the Fiocchi .30 Luger ammo is drying up quickly. I saw this awhile back, and that velocity stopped me from buying in the first place.

Fiocchi FMJ has been great.

$25 for 50rds...Pretty much the going price nowadays...It'd be worth buying a couple boxes, pulling the bullets, and reducing the charge & re-seating the bullet...

1400fps is 200+fps over the 'factory load' according to Lyman Reloading Handbook...That's got to be a full case of powder...

Just hang in there, as Fiocchi will be back available for sale. According to a post on this forum yesterday, Sportsman's Guide has some Fiocchi 30 Luger ammo for sale. Also check with Able's Ammo(Able's Shooting) in Texas.

Ordered two boxes from Midway last night and one from Sportsmans Guide. Wish it was easier to get the stuff, but I'll have 265 rounds of .30 Luger when I add the new boxes to the ammo locker!
