NO COLD BLUE

Hey Guys...

You have convinced me.. no "Cold Blue" will ever touch

my 1916 Erfurt Luger. Better to leave the finish alone.

I guess that is the best solution. Thanks so much for your advice.

Bob, have you checked the menu links for Ted's Luger Strawing Service? He does excellent refinishing (original rust blue method) of Lugers. It would be far better in the long run than cold blue, which I stated earlier, is frowned upon by many Luger owners (and even more so by Luger buyers).

Touch-up cold blue really stands out and looks cheap. The auction houses often mention cold blue touch-up on a gun. It matters to buyers and can seriously hurt value even though it was just a "little touch-up".

Not to knock Ted out of any business, but I believe the pistol was described as being 75% original finish. It would be a shame to take this down to 0% original finish.

Refinishing should only happen to shooters that are parts guns IMHO

Johnny, I have talked a few people OUT of redoing their guns, especially parts strawing! I aim for only shooters! At this level, if he insisted I would do the work! But I dont need the work! I hope he elects to keep it as it! ~Thor~

Very good philosophy. Try to save an original finish pistol if you can, but in the end it is the owner's pistol.
