Post Two questions

I finally got to the range and had a chance to shoot my AE and artillery.
The American Eagle has the major problem. It does not **** after firing! It cocks and fires just fine if I lift the toggle up and close it again but then it does not **** after being fired.
The artillery locked open before chambering the last round almost everytime. I could then manually cycle the action and have it lock open on the empty magazine but it wants to lock open with one round left. There is about 3mm up and down play in the magazine when it is inserted. Can this be tightened up in any way? I do not mind repacing any parts because the gun is already a mismatch of parts and that may be the problem.

Steve,

Re, the arty: The play in the magazine is normal. I suppose that you could hard solder some shim stock on the mag release button but that wouldn't really fix anything, might create a problem. I find it interesting that the toggle only locks open with one round left. The hold open is engaged by the loading button on the magazine, and normally the problem is the opposite, it won't lock open. My best guess is that there is something pushing the hold open up too soon. I suggest taking off the right grip and inserting a magazine so that you can see what's going on. Also, if you haven't already done so, completely disassemble and thoroughly clean the gun. KFS

Steve, If your M1900 is in fact cocked after firing the first round, your problem probably lies inside your sideplate. Appearantly, your disconnector (the plunger in the trigger bar) is not pushing under the trigger lever for the next shot. Tom H.

I will have to go back the range and shoot it with a round in the chamber and no magazine so I can remove the side plate and see if I can get it to "fire" with nothing in the chamber. Unfortunately this only shows up after actually shooting it, not cycling by hand.

Tom, you are correct. I found out that I can duplicate the problem at home. If I hold the trigger back and cycle the toggle, the gun will no fire. But if I then remove the side plate, I can push the sear bar in and it fires (empty chamber). I tried to put the side plate from my artillery on but it does not fit. The trigger from the artillery will fit but makes no difference. Is there an easy solution since it seems to be in the action of the trigger lever in the side plate and the sear bar?

Steve,

First make sure the sear bar plunger (disconnector) at the front end of the sear bar is moving freely and the spring behind it is good.

Then put the side plate on the frame without the cannon. Looking down the inside surface of the sideplate from the front see if the trigger lever is retracting almost all the way into the side plate after squeezing and releasing the trigger.

Third, with the complete pistol assembled, check for a good trigger return spring with sufficient force to overcome the drag in the system and return the trigger fully forward.

Thank you to all who responded to my questions. I think that I solved the problems. On the AE, I found a side plate that worked and compared the trigger levers. My trigger lever was thicker on th part that operates against the sear. I removed some material until it apears to work. At least it works by hand now.

On the artillery that locked open with one round in the magazine, I went back to the e-book on luger mechanics and they descrbed the exact problem and said that it was fairly common. I then followed their instructions to remove a little material from the hold open lever where it is pushed up by the knob on the magazine until the problem went away.

Again, Thank You to everyone. <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />
