RK, maybe these bidders have more dollars than sense. A professional would have known the small parts are strawed and not to rub so hard on all the markings. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Looks like a $350 gun to me.

My point is sellers see this and use it as a basis for pricing. The good part about the internet gun business is the availability of items far beyond immediate geographical boundaries. The bad part is there is no competitive environment for price comparison. If I could get that for my 1918 Erfurt shooter it would be gone in the morning and I'd be calling Thor for a deal.

Look at the bid history. This guy kept bumbing it up until he met the reserve of $800. This guy must be confined to the house and not able to go out into the real world. If I were him, I wouldn't tell anyone I what I paid for it.

This is one of those double edged swords.
Take e-bay for instance, on the one hand you can find items that you used to have to search years for by just typing in a description. And then people get excited at auctions and bid too much sometimes! At least I do! But like someone said, they see an item they want and just decide it is the one and only. Going to a place like Ralphs or Simpsons, (although I haven't gone there, but have seen pictures), it is amazing when you see so many Lugers for sale! So that beat up 1936 Mauser seems so fine on Gunbroker, but if you could choose from 3 or 4, it would make a real difference.

Ed, I wholehartedly agree! I have also been guilty of this. I tend to get very excited when I purchase a new Luger(and yes have been guilty of paying too much for them on occassion). A dealer has a much better chance of selling his luger if he is at a small show and is one of mabey two dealers with Lugers on his table. The competition isn't there, as it is at bigger shows. If someone goes to that show with the intention of buying a Luger, he or she depending on their experience will probably buy one of those two. It's human nature, plain and simple. If you haven't been to Simpson's you owe it to yourself to do so. As Ed stated, a dealer who has several 1938 S/42's, gives you options not afforded by the "blind" sale or internet offering.
