magasine spring

Just wondering.. does the magasine spring get weak if it's stored with 8 rounds over long period of time?

Hi Morgan! I'm pretty sure it's not too bad for the spring, but it certainly puts a lot of pressure on the mag. seams and feed lip.... I have found that the spring degrades pretty rapidly with repeated, full relaxed to full compression, solid, cycles! After market springs are far worse then originals.. if you find a very large wire dia. heavy mag. spring...like in the post war Mauser mag's of the 70's.. then they have tried to overcome this issue with bulk rather then quality of material.... For what it's worth, I just inherited a rig with a magazine having 7 rounds in it for about 50 years. It seems OK.

The real enemies of spring tentsion are temperature changes and moisture. A loaded mag will weaken a lot faster is left outside in the vehicle, than if kept in the house. TH

I've had problems with (cheap) aftermarket High-Power mag springs taking a set after being left loaded several months. Installed new Wolff springs and fixed that.
