1921 DWM Luger passed down in family

Hiyas everyone.

This is a thread moved from the announcements forum before I had access to post to the regular forums. I'll try and clean it up.

We're looking for whatever info we can find regarding Luger that my wife's father left to her when he passed recently.

My wife's father recently passed and one of his prized posessions was given to her. It's a Luger that he took from an enemy officer during WWII.

We just recieved it today, so we began looking into it's history to understand it a bit better. The joy of the discovery is helping her enjoy this piece of her father's past.

We have what is probably the standard set of questions people have in our situation regarding learning any history of it that we can. Intent is to have it cased saved once we have documented as much of it's history (from information we can learn here and what we know from her father surrounding how he came by it) so that it can be saved in the family.

I can see it is a 1921 DWM Luger, made in 1921. It has a weimar army stamping on the front grip.

Oh, I was trying to help, so probably why things got whacked. It is better if you post pictures here, you use the same html that you used, and upload top right, as a new member you might not see that yet.

The magazine is an FXO and the eagle is a nazi era stamp. It is not unusual for mismatched magazines to be with lugers.

oh, also, I collect bring back stories, eventually publish a booklet, I have about 40 stories. If interested, I'd need any info on how dad aquired it, his unit, anything, etc.

The magazine actually has a very clear TXO. Not FXO.

Woudl you happen to know what the"90" stamped on nearly every component piece is?

Reebo....welcome, the "90" on small parts is simply the last 2 digets of the SN#, all matching is a real good thing, be assured it is a FXO mag, no such thing as a TXO, and would like to know what is on the bottom of the mag, proof/inspector marks, also Ed I do not see the grip marking strap mark you said you see, for right now I believe this is a Weimar police model, lets see this grip marking befpre I put money on it

Ed, thanks....without grip markings, the E/WaA looked as if it could have been police....not into army but could be "battery artillery regiment 6 weapon 36" as best as I can read the marking, can't explain the "3./ " lets see what the experts say.....beat to ya

Probably 3 rd Battery Prusssian Artillery regiment 6, staff, weapon no. 36 based on Goertz and Bryans p 67. A Weimar era army marking per 1922 orders.

You are right, it is an FXO. The F is a lower case F tamped at twice the size of the XO. The top of the "f" is a little worn above the crossbar making it hard to spot without a magnifying glass, making it just appear as a capital T the same size as the XO LOL

The magazine boot has no markings at all.

Heinz is absolutely correct. 3rd Battery/ Artillery Regiment 6. weapon 36.

Does the ser# on the front of the frame have a lower case script letter a or b? Or is the letter suffix letter absent? If so, it is one of only 8 to 10 thousand procured by the German Army (Riechswehr).

Lower case B is stamped underneath the serial number, under the barrel on the front of the frame

* Are my eyes playing tricks or is there another alpha/numeric marking on the back of the frame above the lanyard loop??

* If so, please report exactly what you see replicating capital or lower case letters, period dots, & numeric numbers seen. This can be a another unit mark to which this pistol lent service during its history.

* A well focused, close-up of this mark would do well with the experts in unit mark decifering and, possibly, lend further provenance to your Luger.

Back of the frame, above the lanyard loop has a stamp:

3. 36.

The 3 is larger than the 36

I had assumed that this was related to the front grip stamp:

3./A.R.6.36.
