Early Navval Luger Estimates

I am lucky enough to purchase this month what Ive always wanted a 1908 Navy Luger, with the stock, and black holster to follow. I wondered how come some many relativly were produced and distributed to various crews. It dawned on me, that this particular Luger, had served two world wars, torpedos, sinkings, scuttlings, rusty, saltyy wet, damp, diesal fuemy etc. Its truly amazing that any survived. Has any actual accounting exist of those Naal and accoutraments surviving to this day. Or whether a study was done of which proportunate group,For example, the !900 Test Luger with holster, Another example, it took me three years to find a full box of DWM 1900 ammo (green box 471) Ive never come across a naval anything, not even one single round. I invite the comments of our resident expert to determine what has survived and more scarce, what is still available. I know of one other member whose Navy is close to mine, 2501b,Im hoping our resident luger bookkeeper may shed some light. This is surely an instance when the gown was more costly than the bride

For information on documented issues, see Goertz and Walter, The Navy Luger, which provides information on issues based on the Tirpitz Plan. As to what survuved of these issues, there is only informed and mis-informed speculation.

Re: Navy marked ammunition, I have seen exactly 1 box in my 47 years of collecting, so draw your own conclusion as to its rarity. Other accoutrements are available but infrequently and priced correspondingly. There is an increasing presence of fake stuff appearing, particularly the ultra-rare zigzag rods.

FWIW, when (If??) I ever complete my work on the Navy guns, I will be posting a listing of several hundred serial numbers similar to what my friend and fellow Krieghoff afficinado, Tom Whiteman, has published.

Tom,I never heard of a "zig zag" rod. Sounds like rolling papers!

These cleaning rods were specially made for the Navy model Luger. Real one are rare and expensive. If you buy one of these rods, make sure you know what your getting.
