Default Thor:

A beautiful Luger, and some damn good shooting. I see you list the 93gr. Hornady FMJ as the bullet used - is this bullet still available?

If a manufacturer of ammo can sell their loaded ammo and make more profit, what is the incentive to sell just the bullets?

There are some here that can execute a Luger barrel from a blank. Some basic ideas along with some innovative ideas; tis good to have a platform to show and discuss such things. Never know, such might even stir some thought processes in the younger generation to carry the fire onward.

All in all, the basic slender, graceful taper of the 4 3/4" 30 cal barrel is hard to beat in cosmetics and function. Probably the most beautiful barrel design for the Luger in my opinion.

Beautiful Luger, and hard to argue with that target. That handload of Unique 5.1gr with a 93gr FMJ bullet is the load that I have settled on for my best load to date. I am loading the Swiss .309 in 93gr FMJ bullet, and the 93gr. LRN .309-.310 in. with this powder charge. It works excellent in my guns.

Default And later...

G.T. did re-barrel my Luger. He found an excellent replacement .30 barrel and fitted it up - it was also necessary to replace the rearmost toggle segment (with the rear sight) to achieve proper headspace (the one replaced was, itself, a replacement). He provided the toggle replacement, too.
He completed the job in very short order, and the work was perfectly done.
The pistol now performs flawlessly with factory and handloaded ammunition, and shoots very well, indeed.

Well done, G.T.!

Default And, the end of the journey...

I obtained some of the Hornady 90 grain JHP bullets, loaded them with the same components which were used with the Lapua 93 grainers and shot them today... You may consider this a plug for G.T. and his work.

Nice shooting ; and you have found the combination of barrel, bullet, and powder that really works for your luger!

Default Yes, indeed!

And 100% reliable function - in my Luger. Velocity is right at 1100fps - I had intended to chronograph this load today, but it was too darn cold. Still, the 93 grain Lapua was right at that level, and I'm sure the slightly lighter bullet wouldn't be far from it. I'm gonna stock-up on the Hornadys.

OK...I can't figure out how to send G.T. a message. I want to contact him about a new barrel for my 1910 DWM.

Robert

Can I post an email here? rhouston@transervicios.com

Go up to the upper right corner under your sign in name you'll see Private message click on that and enter G.T. and ask him what you will. I got my 30 back two weeks ago and I love it.

For many years I've been shooting Hornady 85gr XTPs, .311" diameter, pushed through a Lee .309" sizing die.
The crimp groove is in the right place, allowing for a roll crimp.
I just bought some 90gr, .309" XTPs, but they don't have a crimp groove.
Somewhat expensive for plinking, but I shoot only 100 rounds a year through my Luger, so no great expense.
