Default Trigger and Sights on S/42

My first P08....a shooter not collector.

I take it there's nothing to be done to reduce trigger pull from 7 lbs to around 5 or sharpen the break besides a good cleaning. If there is I'd love to give my smith some hints.

As for sights. I put a dab of white-out on the front and that's a no-harm improvement. As for rear sights....a wider U/V would be nice and a bit of judicious filing might do that. Aside from altering collector value....a) will it help? and b) will it majorly affect the gun's value, even as a shooter? (I have no plans to sell it....one of my children will get it some day.)

I can keep 'em in the black the way it is....but I'd like to get closer to the X-ring more times than not.

Polishing the interfaces along the trigger train can help. Don't mess with the angles of the sear's interface with the f.p.! Just polish...

Widening the rear sight's notch is sometimes done, and I believe the Swiss did it. Low level shooter, what the heck, not much effect, if any. High level "collectible shooter" probably not so advisable. But first, try getting used to the whole deal as-is while you're practicing to hit that X ring.

Don't forget to post pics!

I recently got my first shooter and the sights are hard to get used to. I have painted the front sight and this helps a bit. The trigger on mine feels mushy is the best i can describe but light. Ammo effects accuracy on mine quite a bit wwb is by far the most accurate. Overall with practice at 7 yards most of my shots are in the x or right next to it

Thanks guys. I foresee a trip to Cabelas for some WWW and a lot of trigger time and squinting. My old eyes make it tough enough as it is....I changed most of my favorite range guns and my carry/HD guns to fiber optics with a nice red front sight and green rear. They really help.

Now....maybe a bunch of duct tape (as there's no rail) and a laser ? Or drill and tap for a red dot. Okay...just kidding.

I advise strongly to stay away from any 'smith for trigger work- they quite likely will make it worse or cost you a lot in parts replacement.

Practice with the trigger, you can and will get better.

or if you really want a target luger- buy or make one!
There is a Mauser "Sport Modell" on sale here or the other forum- it has adjustable sights.
Or do what I did , sorry for the fuzzy sight pictures :

Bmax,
the front sight is available from Brownell's; it fits a "Mauser" rifle slot and I think it is made for fitting to many different applications.

The rear sight is a slightly modified Beretta 92 pistol rear sight.
The lower area of each side was relieved to allow the toggle to close as the sight is slightly wider than the distance between the "forks".
As this one was an experiment, I used a file; a cleaner job could be done by milling the bottom of the sight.

Welcome to the board and hope this helps.
