Hi Dan, You say there are no marking? Not even a serial number on the frame front, just below the barrel? If not, I would guess it's had a major overhaul!

Sounds like a "lunch box special". Johnny Cash building a Cadillac one piece at a time.

Frank + Ron. I tend to agree w/ both scenarios. Pistol looks exactly like the " Georg Luger Masterpiece" on the Forum lead in page. Except for the wood bottom and no eagle on side of extractor.

Just to clarify the Georg Luger Masterpiece identity...

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but that graphic is a heavily sanitized version of a good photo that I collected some time ago. All visible marks were carefully obscured by digital photographic magic so that it could serve as a generic representative of the Luger Pistol.

If anyone cares to hazard a guess as to date of manufacture and who manufactured it... it might make a good guessing game.

I will post the correct answer after someone correctly guesses its true identity...

Okay John, I guess it would be made in 1936 and made by Krieghoff. How's that?

ALMOST !

Well, it an Early S Variation (serial number less than 2500) and it is a Krieghoff, and according to Still it was made in 1936 by Krieghoff? I dont have Gibsons book. Kenyon says this would be a Mid Series SN between 1600-2500 but I tend to side with Still on this one, an Early Varition.

I will have to bow to Thor's references.

The serial number of this gun WAS 2432...before I obscured the markings on the photo.

As I stated above, the photo we use for the front page has been altered so that no identifying marks are visible... makes for a nicely finished generic sample of Georg Luger's Masterpiece...

When I captured this photo, it was identified as a 1937 Kreighoff... but Thor's authoritative sources say 1936.

That was fun. We will have to do this again...
