Newbie ( almost) with Navy 1916

Hello again, ( i first came here in 2003! but got away...)
I came back in time to send Norm the ID of my inherited Luger.. and thought it would be fine to post a few low rez pictures of it. I am wondering if you could recommend me what brand of oil/ grease to use to get rid of the small rusts that appear here and there sometimes after storage... ( preferably one i could get in europe off ebay for simplier shipping).
If someone has a matching number magazine for me it would be nice too ! ( i'll trade for number 1330!)

The holster ( 1915, sorry Norm, said 1917 wrongly) is in very good shape but misses the slings for carrying it..( not that i am about to go wandering the streets in Kriegsmarine uniform tomorrow...)..
Is it ok to fire modern 9mm para in the gun ( i have read in the forum that the gun is very strong and modern loads are weaker than WWI-II..?). Is it any danger involved in doing so? What has to be made sure off before firing the gun again after such a long time without danger ( for me! and the gun!)

Mish, your holster and cleaning rod are for the LP08 (artillery model) Luger not the Navy P04. Best ammo to shoot for you in Europe is 115 grain Sellier & Belloit or Fiocchi. For rust try a regular gun oil and very fine steel or brass wool.

Thnx for the info! Wonder what the differences are ( have not seen good pics of the navy model)
As for ammo, unfortunately its illegal over here to own the weapon, so to get ammo will be tricky at best, so might not have lots of choice really!
Thnx for the hint for cleaning, but isn't the brass or steel wool a risk for the blue tint to go away?

You can safely take off rust as long as you use ooo steel wool with PLENTY of sewing machine oil on it. Do not use it DRY as you may lose some bluing. Wet with oil there is no danger.

I think he meant 0000 steel wool and he made a typographical error when posting. I would not use anything except 0000.

Picky picky..Fine steel wool. I don't even know if there IS 000 steel wool. 0000 is an obvious good choice but if used with enough oil it shouldn't harm blue. Just don't rub it too long.

I found the time to take a few pictures, showing the different markings on the #1621.
I stripped it all out, and all parts bear the 21 number, but the locking bolt near the trigger seems to have been replaced at some point ( bears number 01).
What amazes me is the amount of craftmanship involved to produce such a piece of equipment...really impressive...

I have also included two pics from a working Sten Mk II i received as a gift, still wrapped in the grease paper it was stored in after WWII. After cleaning it with steel wool, appeared engraved by the resistant that used it two names: Loulou and Lucienne. It really brought out memories and reality to the time when french resistant used those against german troops / or collaborationists..Might give the weapon to a WWII museum that would be interested.

I'm not sure of how to embed the pics...all i seem to be able to do is get a link to a small image...maybe a moderator can edit this? ( in the message are the links to each image... thank you
