Doubs, I e-mailed Brandon, (nice cropping of his picture), I think that he just made the picture smaller, but not the image (frame), so it kept its size after he shrunk it down. He'll play around and get the hang of it.

Brandon's picture is actually very good and I'd like to hear about the camera he bought. It appears to take very high-quality images.

Ok, so I finally figured out how to do it!
Walker, My camera is a Nikon CoolPix 4500, It's a great little camera! Right now there is even a $50.00 mail-in rebate offer on it! I've only had the camera for two days and already I'm taking some pretty good pictures! I would highly reccomend it to anyone in the market for a digital!!! Pete, Well there you have it, My Luger! Also, I have a scanner I just don't have a port to plug it into (Odd, I know)!!! Be sure to have fun at Tulsa, and if you can take some pics! Regards, Brandon |

I am guessing a gift! If not, perhaps $850 as I BET you got a good deal on a good pistol! I bet it is worth at least $1200 if matched.

Brandon, nice Mauser for your first one, a lot better than mine, which was also my first. Good pictures too, I have the Nikon Coolpix 775 and love that little sucker! You asked for an estimate of value, here goes, since it is refinished and thereby automatically becomes a shooter, damn, I hate that word, refinished, refurbished or reblued is my preference, I would go about $500 on it, but I am jaded as I already have one, refinished many times as it is the one I experiment on. Davis's Luger Handbook goes up to $875 for one in good (refinished) condition. I'll take a guess that you got it for about $350? Close?

Ted,
$1200.00? You can't be serious!!! My Dad gave me the money to buy it for Christmas, I just didn't let it burn a hole in my pocket, then In Feb. I found the Luger at a gun show for $650.00! If it's worth TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS I won't be able to sleep tonite!!! Brandon... |

Herb,
Oh Boy, I kinda thought this might be coming! I've said before "It might as well have been bought in the dark"! Well Kids, This is the price you pay for not doing your homework before buying! Oh well, If it weren't for that Luger I wouldn't have found the forum, so it was worth it! Brandon... |

I sure didnt see where he said it was REFINISHED???? That sure changes things! A NO SUFFIX 1937 S/42 would be correctly Salt blued with salt blued parts, Variation 2 1500t-400b serial range (TRL-JS). If it was mentioned somewhere that it was refinished I suppose I would say $500-$600 but it sure looks okay to me. The extractor appears to be plum colored which IS SOMETIMES correct for salt blued Mausers.

Ted,
Hmmmmm.....I don't know what to say... The photos have bright spots in them because they were taken last night and the flash was on! So I'm planning a re-take sometime tomorrow with natural lighting! Since I have no idea if it's refinished or not, maybe the better pics can help determine!!! FINGERS CROSSED, Brandon P.S. the extractor is very much plum colored! |

Do the parts have matching two digit numbers including firing pin (vented type) and hold open device? Is the muzzle tarnished or blued? Take it out in the sunlight, does the finish look brownish or spotty? What condition is the bore? Does the barrel have the barrel gauge on the bottom of it? Is the interior of the reciever blued or white? The S/42 appears to be "haloed" which looks correct to me. I guess I better get back to this Artillery Luger I am doing for Mark.

Thor, your response shocked me! take a look at all of those nicely blued strawed parts! Usually only found on a refininshed Luger. Perhaps my computer is depicting incorrect coloring but they sure looked blue to me.

Herb,
According to the charts in Still's Third Reich Lugers, my gun is supposed to have blued small parts. Regards,Brandon |
