Default Thanks to GT !

This is a huge thank you to GT (subtitled Uncle Bunny's Luger)
.
I recently acquired a 1937 Mauser S/42 which my Uncle Bunny (born on Easter Sunday) brought back from WWII. He was a GREAT guy (like lots of men from that generation) but never talked much about the War. All he told me about the P-08 was that "he took it off a German". I've always wanted to know the details but my Uncle has passed on without ever talking about it. The Luger, in perfect condition and all matching numbers and including the original magazine, resided in a safe fin his bedroom for 70 years. At one point, it was passed to his son when he earned his wings as an F-16 fighter pilot. His son tragically died in a plane crash and the Luger went back into the safe. It has always been kept in a velvet bag with a piece of paper that just says "German pistol". I believe this is because at the end of the war, when these were just beginning to be brought back, the word Luger was not being used yet.
This Luger has since passed to me. It was in the possession of my Uncle's other son...who had little appreciation for it, and even talked about "turning it in to the Government and getting it off the street". When I heard this, I BOUGHT it from him (my cousin) to save it. I paid him RETAIL value to honor the memory of my Uncle. I didn't want the legacy of this pistol to include the "nephew" taking advantage of the "son".
Anyway, I bought the pistol and opened the action and everything looked great. The next day I went to open the action again and discovered the center toggle pin was missing and the retaining pin was broken at the base...with some oxidation on the retaining pin where it was broken off. Although my cousin denies it, I really think he tried to disassemble the toggle, broke the retaining pin, put the center pin back in and said nothing about it. No matter...it is what it is.
I went to this website looking for help and I got it. Three or four guys on here all mentioned some guy named "G.T". I contacted him and had a very pleasant conversation. He had time to answer my questions and then give me some great advice on top of that. I sent the toggle train out to him via UPS. He did an EXCELLENT job. To make sure there was no damage to the toggle he had the old pin REMOVED WITH A LASER! The center pin was custom fit and a new retaining pin installed and the toggle was even cleaned and lubed. It only took 3 weeks including shipping time and the price was VERY reasonable. Best the best part was talking with GT. What a great guy! I feel like I made a new friend. I called him to express my gratitude but also wanted to share this story on the website. Thanks again Mr. Tomek !

G.T. provides a lot of help to the Luger community, and is very easy & congenial to do business with. I've used him before and would do so again.

I don’t know if you’ll ever find a bad word about the man. May you be fully immersed in this hobby with his help. It seems like yesterday GT helped set me on my Luger path in a remarkably similar fashion to how this has played out. Enjoy and welcome!
