DWM what does it stand for?
Hello,
I am researching information on a german luger my neighbors father brought home from ww2, it has the (fancy) DWM on the top and numbers through out the gun. on the front of the grip, its got the markings L.F.169. the magazines have wooden bottoms its a 9M. the holster has the same serial numbers as gun and is marked GUSTAV REINHARDT BERLIN 1929. Any information or a point in the right direction would help! thank you ken |

I always thought it was the initials of the General that owned that particular Luger, Dieter Wilhelm Mauser, ah.....come on.....let me have a little fun now! ~Thor~

Don't be offended Ken...
You just didn't give us enough info to fully answer your question. The value of a Luger is based on variation and condition. Variation means what variation of Luger, when was it made by whom, with what unique features, and then what condition is the bluing in, and what percentage of strawing (if applicable) is left. So you see, your enquiry was akin to saying "How tall is a tree?" People here can answer your questions and give you an idea of value, but you'll have to supply a lot more info. Hope this helps.

Re: Don't be offended Ken...
Please don't try somewhere else Ken. This forum is the spot to get all the information about Lugers that you need or want. It's just that a while back, someone talked about a Luger for sale on an auction that had for a selling point, "A German General's Initials" engraved on the top (DWM). We all got a laugh out of it and Thor was referring to that episode when he made his remark. I knew what he was referring to, and said "take it easy Thor." The humor was certainly not directed towards you, because you asked an honest question. You will find that on this forum, honest questions are almost always answered in a forthright manner. I admit that you may have to put up with some banter between the vets of this forum, but you will get honest opinions from some very honest and knowledgeable guys. I myself, have started threads where two, (or three) vets will go off on a tangent of their own, completely oblivious of the original question or thread. When that happens, I just stay out of the way and learn from what they say to each other. If you love Lugers, then you are very welcome here!

Ken, Sorry I was so abrupt with you...
and sorry if you were offended by my short answer and Thor's inside joke.
A belated welcome to the Lugerforum... I realized I was late for a scheduled meeting just as I started to answer you and I had to cut it short and asked you to check the History of the Luger link to your left because I knew that you would find the answer to your DWM question there... If you stick around you will find friendship and more collective knowledge about Lugers on this site than anywhere else on the web, and possibly anywhere else in the world. Even some of the authors of the expensive Luger reference books pop in and out of here once in a while... And you can usually avail yourself of this knowledge without very much heartburn. I have used this forum for over three years, and find that I never come away from it without learning something new... Stick around... it will be worth it. And, BTW, there is no such thing as a dumb question. regards, John |

the gun is in unbelievable good shape, like new as well as the holster, I see alot of markings on the gun but dont know where to begin on what kind or who made it. We don't need pics...
although they would be nice, just tell us the following:
â?¢ Date or symbol on the Chamber (area above the breech) â?¢ Description of stamps on right side of receiver â?¢ Inscription or logo on the Toggle (the part with the fat knobs on top) â?¢ Serial No from the front of gun under the barrel * Any little character found under the serial number * Do other small parts have the last two numbers of the serial no. * Does Magazine have any marking or numbers on it? * Does magazine have wood bottom, does it have serial No. Does it match the gun? * Does the trigger and safety lever and some other parts have a yellowish color, how strong/faded is this color This is a start... Tell us this Ken, and you are one your way... Dok |

thanks Dok, heres the info.
ok Dok here it goes
-no date on gun only the DWM and the number 37 -on the right side of gun very small stamp has Wa66 and small stamp above it(can not make it out) -4637 is the serial number -character under the serial number looks like a "T" -the number 37 is stamped through out the gun. -magazines have wooden bottoms number 1 has (1 on the top and 8870 in the middle and 25 on the bottom) the second magazine has(2 on top 1088 in the middle) -searial numbers do not match the gun that are on the magazines. there is a VERY faint tint of yellow on trigger and safety the only other markings are the letter n with what appears to be a small crown above it. I found the simble under the tech info to the left 3rd proof, number 28. the holster has the Tear down tool (I am assuming)it has the numbers 169 on itthe back of the holster has the number 4637 stamped into it(same # as gun) also has LF169 stamped into it and also GUSTAV REINHARDT BERLIN 1929 stamed as well. wow, I wish I knew what the heck I was looking at. I hope that is good information. and thanks for all the help. Ken |

Re: "Dok how about a Question List "?
I see that you have the beginnings of a question list ?
Could a list of this sort be posted elsewhere in the "Forum" and referred to when needed ? Might be a good way to get the information consistent and quick . Just an Idea . ViggoG |

THis has been mooted many times...
but no one has actually done it... I'm not a collector, so I don't feel I should be the one. I would post it in the general info section to be referred to it I had it.

Re: thanks Dok, heres the info.
Are there any numbers and letters stamped on the front of the grip strap on the Luger frame that match the letter combination on the back of the Holster? It appears that what you have is what is called a "Sneak Luger" I will let the experts tell you more about it.
