Hello Ric,

What a wonderful nice looking set of lugers.

And that case workmanship. I think you will give our Forum member, DOK, a run for his money if you decide to get into the luger case business.

In CA-State, these S/S pistols are not allowed to be sold because they are not on the C&R list...

I will need to wait and retire in a few years and move out of CA-State to add one to my gun safe.

I have posted pictures of mine earlier. I like the stainless steel guns very much. Mine is a year 2000 manufacture and is so stamped under the eagle. All of the stainless steel guns were made by AIMCO of Houston regardless of who distributed them. With luck, you will enjoy yours as much as I do mine! I hope to get a .30 cal 4.75 barrel version in a few months and then a .45 when they become available. Mine is very accurate, how about yours?

A luger you can shoot until it drops ! I've got to confess I like these guns. Mechanically very very close to the originals and you don't have to worry about 60 - 100 year old metallurgy.

Steve, Rick W., and Stu. Don't be discouraged because of others opinions... these are great guns in their own right and do not compete with the "original" but stand alone IMHO.

Because each your guns are representative of different versions of the stainless Lugers from AIMCO, I would ask and encourage each of you to open an album in the Member Gallery and post full size sharp focus photos from all angles for all the members to see the differences in Stainless Steel Luger variations over time and manufacture.

In fact, I think it would make a great collaborative album... and I would be glad to help create this if you guys are interested.

In the next couple of days, I will try scanning mine and see if I can get better pictures. It is interesting to see the 3 variations.

While some people do not like these guns, I do! The stainless steel gives a very interesting look to such an old design. It also makes sure that some unscrupulus person cannot remark them and try to sell them as a rare variation unless they find a real sucker. They also add to the total number of Lugers available to actually shoot without damaging historically important pieces. Face it, the number of pre-1945 guns is getting smaller every day!

With that said, I also like the very beat-up 1906 American Eagle and mismatched artillery that I have. I now have an American Eagle stamped gun from circa 1906, 1970's and year 2000. They are all very nice guns to have and shoot. They also make an interesting trio.

I see that you are from Dallas. I assume that is the Texas city and not Dallas, Oregon.(yes we have one as well as Toledo, Nashville, Pittsburg and other equally creative names). Do you ever see Mr. Romo of AIMCO at any shows? If so, you might want to plant the idea bug of a book about these guns. His company has made all of them and it would be nice to have it all down in writting!

The addres that you show is the old address of AIMCO. It therefore would seem that the same facility did all the manufacturing and maybe changed names or was bought.

Hi Rick. I'm intrigued by the Aimco / SPM overlap. Perhaps they manufactured in batches and it's a matter of using up stock on hand ?

As to the Stoeger / Mitchell marks. It wouldn't surprise me if they just marked up completed pistols as they received orders. Perhaps we could order ones with our names on, just to confuse enthusiasts in the future !

I bought mine used but it came with the original box, tool and two ribbed magazines; one stainless/wood the other blue/plastic. I think I read somewhere that the Stoeger magazines are unique to the gun but Mitchell mags interchange with standard P08 mags ? This all sounds a little confusing given the apparent overlap in production.

Hi Rick. I've a police mag, a WWII fxo mag and the modern mags that came with my Mitchell and they're all completely interchangeable between the 3 guns.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Stoeger pistols would only work with their mags and those mags wouldn't work in older pistols ? But since Stoeger and Mitchells are the same pistol there's got to be more to it than that !

My year 2000 gun has the flat side magazines and a vintage one will not work. It just kind of flops around in the frame. My gun came with one with a black plastic bottom but the extras that I have since ordered have a brown plastic bottom with an eagle crest on them. This is a definite improvement as far as I am concerned. The color is close to the dark walnut grips.

I believe it is the latest generation of the Stainless guns that don't interchange magazines with the originals... The Stoeger and Mitchell guns, to the best of my knowledge, were the same generation of tooling and manufacture even if they were not at the same time.

If anyone knows for sure, maybe they will post here and let us know.

BTW, I just added all the stainless Luger photos that I could find in my archive to the Member Gallery Album I created... If you have any more that I don't have shown, please send them to me and I will add them as well.

One thing I noticed that someone may be able to explain; some of the guns pictured have a groove underneath the safety lever ? Does anyone know if they belong to a particular model or era ?
