Re: the FTF issue, that is a common problem. There are many excellent suggestions in the thread. But, if those ideas don't improve performance, I would suggest a tape test (do a search of this forum and the other forum as to how) to see if the toggle is coming all the way back on recoil. If it isn't, the mainspring can be removed, a fraction of a coil (say 1/2 coil) cut off, and the pistol test fired. The process is repeated until the toggle achieves full travel. I have fixed a couple FTF issues with this procedure.

Thanks for the advice all.
Went to the range for the second time finally, with 150 fmj rounds of Federal 124 gr, WWB 124 gr NATO, and Fiocchi 124 gr.
The Federal American Eagle was the best performer.

It had no issues unless it was a full mag, thus I think I am down to the magazine being the last issue, as no matter what ammo is loaded full capacity, it hangs up around the 2/3 shot in. The NATO was the worst. Fiocchi also FTF about 4/8 rounds each time. Quite annoying.
But I’m making progress. I’ll try some MecGar mags with AE and should be good...

As you can see, I am using polymer Swiss grips temporarily. I have been in contact with Jim Solomon who will be re-profiling the original wood grips in either Borchardt or P08 style pattern (haven't decided), and will re-enforce the right grip with metal braces to prevent the lateral movement and literal self-destruction. These polymer ones also are slipping (pictured) so I will need to drill the retainer hole and use the grip pin on them also it seems.

I have the Swiss pattern version and I replaced my grips with some original Swiss bakelite grips and they were 100% better. Only issue is the Swiss grips are cut for the longer grip safety and there's a small gap. Not an issue for me since they feel so much better.

To follow up on this, I ended up getting a Mec-Gar (new) magazine, which solved ALL my reliability problems.

Glad to hear that a new Mec-Gar mag has you up and running, and enjoying you 06/73. You might want to consider sending your OEM Mauser mags to GT, and have him install his "whiz-bang special Luger mag springs" in the mags.....just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion rhuff. I am probably going to get a few more Med-Gars and then save for a drum.
I also drilled holes in my plastic repro swiss grips. Now the sit fine on the gun and are stable during shooting...

if you have the Swiss type handle I recommend the grips I bought on eBay. No filing or adjustments needed.

Hugh, I am curious as to your choice of color...Do 'red grips' on a Swiss style Luger have any special significance???

(I"ll pass on the source)...

While the ones pictured are likely reproductions, there were Red grips shipped on M1929 Swiss Lugers (not the Mauser variety) back in the mid 1930's. There are small details that are "tells" for the repros.

They were originally made from a new plastic called Canvesite, and were remarkable breakable. For that reason, originals are rare and difficult to find or match. I recently spent a few years finding a single replacement to restore one of my Swiss Lugers from 1938 that had them.
