Default Is it possible to repair this grip ?

1911 Erfurt, is it possible to repair this type of chip ? Not necessarily undetectably, but blended in inconspicuously without touching the rest of the grip which matches the character of the gun. The grip is numbered to the gun.

I've read it might be worth trying to contact Jim Solomon ?

Frankly, I would want to know the history of the weapon...There may be good reasons for those scars....battle-earned marks are to be respected.

It's a 1911 / 1920 Erfurt. Matching, (incl grips), apart from the magazine, (looking for an appropriate condition Erfurt mag for it as well).

I don't want to touch the original grip, but have the chip filled with an appropriate piece, possibly from my spares. Not trying to hide the damage, but have the fix have similar wear.

I have repaired worse, and Jim Soloman will knock your socks off. Go for it.

Jim Soloman refreshed the checkering on a set of P08 grips a few years ago. Out standing work!

This fix would be relatively easy even without spare grips. There are a few different ways to tackle it but I don't think I would use the spare grip unless I had to. G.T. will tell you that any fix requires patience and planing. Lack of patience is the primary enemy of quality repair ... without it you may as well not bother. Having said that this repair looks like fun to me, to others it looks like a headache .... don't use those type of people for the fix.
Tom Austin has an excellent point in that the chip is part of this gun's history and as such adds it's own element to the gun's gestalt. Humans being the way we are like things as perfect as possible though and I get that.
Good luck with whatever you decide ... its an interesting dilemma.
