Post DWM Luger Stock Lug Transition

According to "Imperial Lugers" by Jan Still, the DWM transition from no-stock-lug to mandatory stock lug on Imperial Lugers occurred in late 1913.

Since some 1914 DWM's were built WITHOUT a stock lug and some 1913 DWM's were built WITH a stock lug, it appears that the transition was not a precise cutover.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with a 1913 DWM which HAS a stock lug. Interested in the build block. The only ones I have been able to personally view were built in the "b" block, but at least one in the "no suffix" block has been reported.

If you have a 1913 DWM with stock lug, please contact me directly at <lugesm@charter.net> or reply here.

Would appreciate any information you have.

Regards,
Luke

I've never seen a 1913 DWM with a stock lug, only Erfurts produced in DEC "13.

Hello Tom (Lugerdoc),

Thanks for responding to my inquiry.

"Imperial Lugers" has a picture of a 1913 DWM with Stock Lug on page 39. This gun was part of the Doug Smith collection at the time the book was published. It is in the "b" block as is the one I just bought.

The Doug Smith Luger has the exact same proofs on the right receiver as the one I just bought.

Regards,
Luke

Sounds like you found a rare transition piece Luke...

Congrats! When do we get to see it?

I have a 1913 Erfurt with stock-lug. Think it's rare. It's that one with the SS-stamp, pics were posted.

Thanks, Dieter.

Also, I just received a report of two other 1913 DWM's with stock lugs from a member of the other Luger forum. Unfortunately, he did not have serial numbers.

I'll ask a friend, he has over 100 lugers, esp. the old ones, maybe he has one 1913 with lug and number.

Dieter -

Thanks for checking. It is pretty clear that they exist but are, indeed, rare. I feel very fortunate to have found one, even if it is not in mint condition.
