Red face Alert and help needed

I hate to report this but my 1939 S/42 #4504 "o" suffix was taken yesterday during a break-in. Also my 1851 Colt Navy plus a bunch more but that's another story. Anyway just to let you guys know if by some very odd chance it is offered on the market.

As for the help -- I need a value for insurance. As I understand there were only about 38,000 of these made in '39. The gun is all matching except the mag (they also got 10 mags) and the condition is (was) 95% with only slight holster wear. I'm estimating $1000 but any other input would be helpful.

At least $1,000, probably $1,500 or more, plus remember you have to try and "replace" it, so more cost. I imagine others will chime in also.

I am sorry, that stinks! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

That really sucks Jerry. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

You should edit your post and include the serial number of the Colt Navy as well (you do this by using the "edit post" icon with the pencil and paper at the top of your post).

The membership will be looking out for that serial number to come up on one of the auction sites.

Go to Auctionarms.com or Gunbroker.com and see if there are any similar Lugers or Colts for auction. When the hammer falls on the auction you can print out the auction ad pages and present them to your insurance company to substantiate the current value.

Unfortunately your gun was taken by someone who will probably just sell it to another thug... and not likely try to sell it nationally on an auction site... but who can tell.

You might alert the pawn shops in your area to be on the lookout too.

I hope that whoever did it gets caught with them before your guns are used in a violent crime...

tough luck guy... Thanks for letting us know... and hopefully someone here will see it and notify you...

regrets and regards,

John Sabato

About 15 years ago I had S&W 32-20 stolen from my house. I suspected who the thief was but had no proof. My insurance company required a report from my local police showing that I had reported it stolen. The police put the SN out on the wire, and six months later it showed up in a pawn shop in Houston. I got my gun back and the pawn shop was out whatever they had paid for it. It was pawned by a local drug dealer known to the police, but they couldn't trace it back to whoever stole it. It was ok, except that it had been dropped and a chip was missing from one of the pearl grips.

Jerry, I agree with Ed-U-ard!! First, it stinks and second a decent replacement cost would likely be closer to $1500. I'm am truly sorry!!!

Well, I'll let the locals do their job and maybe I'll get them back but they don't hold much hope. I'm about to check with the local hock shops but ????????????????

The only good thing is that they didn't get my Confederate Spiller & Burr 36.

How were the guns stored? In a safe or steel gun cabinet? Not trying to bust your chops, just would like to know if it seems likely that the perps came prepared to get the guns - this would be a clue as to who they are, maybe. Also, don't delay in checking pawn shops, gun shops and dealers at any gun shows within 100 miles. Going strictly by what I have heard and read many times, the police will probably get some of your guns back, particularly the more collectible pieces. 99 out of 100 dealers/pawn shop guys will call the cops if a scumbag tries to sell them a nice gun. We all need to have detailed records and pictures stored in a different location from the guns, to assist in a case like this. I hope you get them all back and get to watch the devils sweat before the judge.
