Default Commercial Luger with a single digit serial #

Commercial Luger with a single digit serial #

I just purchased a 30 caliber commercial luger with a single digit serial number "4". I don’t know anything about Luger’s except that I do like them. I purchased it from a dealer here in town that has been in the antique gun and collectible business for at least 50 years and is very knowledgeable. He told me he bought it at a gun show approximately 25 years ago and it was included in a large lot of Lugers. At the time of purchase, he didn’t notice that one of the Lugers was a single digit so he called the guy back that he purchased it from and told him he could have it back at which time the seller told him "a deals a deal" just keep it. The gun has been hanging a glass case with a sold tag on all these years. I remember seeing it along time ago when I was just a young man. He told me there’s going to be plenty of sore people seeing that it’s gone since he never wanted sell it. I’ve gone through the entire gun looking for any stamps I can find. All I have found is the number 4 stamped on the frame, slide, trigger and the takedown side plate. The mechanics are absolutely mint, I question whether it’s ever been fired since there are no case markings whatsoever on the face of the bolt. The only other stamps I could find it Is the number 78 stamped on the back of the bolt beside the firing pin and the inside of the grips are stamped 19. That’s all, no proof markings or letter stamps anywere. You can see on the breech where the original date was removed and replaced with the GERMANY stamp. My question is, is this a common gun or something special ? Hopefully my pictures will load, thankyou for any info you guys may have, Greg
