Value of a rear sight toggle?
I am buying a Luger that has a Navy rear sight and a 4" barrel. It is eagle/2 proofed. I don't think that this is right and am basically buying it for the toggle. I know some were sold on Ebay last year, but cannot remember what they went for.
TIA.

doug, if memory serves me correctly ( not always true at my age) the last navy rear sight & toggle that I saw sold on ebay went for about $600-700 dollars...
That's the best this old brain can remember...

John, thanks for the reply. I thought it was some ungodly ammount! I want to build a budget franken navy and this appears to be a good start. I am getting the gun for a good price.

Doug,
if your Luger came with a large cap hinge pin that you are not going to use, I could use it. Big Norm |

That Ebay toggle will be turning up on a gun with matching numbers soon, I can almost feel it coming. Can someone with some good software get the number off it?

Tom, I really don't think that you will see this toggle up for sale since I bought. It came on a 1936 Krieghoff all matching except for the toggle. I was asking the value because I bought the whole gun for a grand complete with a nice Navy mag (this will go on ebay). I plan on making a shooter Navy out of it and it won't see the light of day in someone elseĆ¢??s collection for many years. It is sad that the first thing that some automatically think is that a forgery will be created from parts that are for sale.

Tom,
I emailed the guy about the navy toggle currently on Ebay and he sent me some pictures. The toggle is numbered 20 and looks in rougher shape than he described. The hinge pin is numbered 55 which suggests that it may not be a navy hinge pin since the number does not match the toggle. The number on the hinge pin appears pretty deep so you probably would not be able to take it off without compromising the pins head. I was thinking about bidding because I need a navy hinge pin with the large cap but I don't think that I will now. Its almost impossible to buy one on Ebay because you just cannot judge just using pictures the size of the flange. If someone could instruct me as to how to post pictures from an email I will do it. Big Norm, I have your e-mail address on my laptop and not in my PC (was going to send you a quick e-mail). From the main page of www.lugerforum.com is an upload link and you should be able to save the picture from your e-mail to your Mac and then upload it to the forum using the link.
Otherwise send it to me and I will either upload to my server and give you the www address to put in your posting or post it for you?

Ok, I feel so powerful now. I gotta try to see if I can do it again.
Below is a picture sent to me of the underside of the toggle. Not that useful but I wanted to test my new found ability. http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Mvc-011f.jpg Big Norm |

Tankard Ed,
I was experimenting on the second picture and I thought about trying it. But I forgot about that Image thing-a-ma-bob at the bottom. I can't always find it. I guess that I was filled with power for the moment. I guess what I can also do is just copy/paste in one of the auction sites and one of those blue lines will appear that people can click on to view an auction. This is something that I wanted to try for so long. I just loved it when other people did it. It opens up some great discussion. I am still learning what I can do on the new forum. |
