Default A friends Luger...

When I try to digest all that is Luger, my head hurts. I honestly tried to hit my books and all of the excellent commentary on here and I still cannot figure out when my friends Luger was made. I'm attaching three pictures and maybe someone out here can dicpher it.

He told me it has a a '65', a '5465' and an 'n' with a crown. That's all I know. The pictures do show 'Germany'.

Any ideas, experts?

Welcome to the forum

Appears to be commercial model, made by DWM.

A picture of the front of the frame, showing the serial number and suffix would help us, as it should have a letter under the four digits.

It must have been made prior to the advent of lubrication and cleaning because the pistol is rusting! ...Just kidding... get a rag and some gun oil and get that baby cleaned up... it is already about 90+ years old and it will last a lot longer if you (or he) keeps it clean!

Welcome to the Lugerforum!

A newbe Luger-mann would like to verify that pistols with "Germany" stamped above take-down lever were originally intended for commercial sale only. Thanks & Cheers.

Commercial sale to the US. No other country required the simple origin of the gun to be stamped on it.

'L' - doesn't that equal about 1926 or 1927?

S#5465l was made in 1923 according to Still's Weimar Lugers.

Default Many, many thanks...

Thanks for all of the help, experts. I'm telling him it's a 1923 Commercial Luger and to oil it!

Thanks again.
