Does Anyone Know If Mike Krause Is Still Producing His 45

I was watching the History Channels' Tales Of The Gun, Luger Segment which is a must see, and is available, from the History Channel, It did a segment on Mike Krause, performing his Magic. I would love to find out more information, reguarding his where to contact him, Im sure Ron knows, Im buying him a teeshirt for Christmas, 'ASK RON, HE'LL KNOW! my regards eric

I had lunch with Mike Krause today. It is my understanding that he has about 2-3 more unfinished or partially finished .45 luger frames and can assemble them BUT it will cost at least $20K for one now. At least one local small manufacturer was interested in buying the blueprints but apparently had second thoughts when they realized how much labor they require. It is really a dying art. Those out there who already own one of his .45 lugers know they are the best and are cherished.

I thought his Baby Lugers were interesting. I think Ralph said his was borrowed to reverse engineer it.

I found the article that was in Guns & Ammo February 1999 called "Baby Boomer". Narrow (smooth sides) toggle width, 21 ounces, carbon steel, 6&1/2" OAL, 2 & 7/8" Barrel length. Six round mag in 32 ACP. The originals were very limited, 4 at least were made, two in 32 ACP, and two in 380 ACP, those were made by DWM's head engineer Heinrich Hoffman.
This is the one Ralph owned. I took this picture 2002 at the last Luger Forum convention. Sorry it is blurry.

Mike Krause still has at least one, and maybe two, of these little beauties, in cases, for sale. They aren't cheap and shouldn't be!

Ralph Shattuck's baby Luger was one of those made by Mike Kraus.

Well, I was not there when it was ordered, I just repeated what Ralph told me. Well, the gun does look pretty new in the case, I must have misunderstood Ralph. Here is an excerpt what I wrote in 2000 after a visit to his Luger Cave.

"We got to look and hold Georg Luger's Personal 7 Shot-protype and the August Weiss's personal Luger, only one each of those every made. We also checked out the baby Luger that Mike Krause copied to make his run of copies of this weapon. What struck me was the very small size, much smaller than Georg's snubby!"

I believe that John's custom lugers may hold the record of the most Guns & Ammo covers of anyone. His MSTR (Martz safety toggle release) invention was covered some years ago with a photo of John and his shop, in the 1984 issue of the German "Waffen Digest". TH
