Question 1923 Stoeger American Eagle

Did the 1923 Stoeger American Eagle lCommerical models have an eagle that looks different than the earlier? Might have pictures later to discuss. Thanks!

a very interesting question Thor. I would speculate that since the 1923 AE commercial were made by DWM, that they still had the stamping die used on the early AE models and that the stamp should be the same.

I also would be very interested in seeing a variety of photos of various AE models that would answer this question. And now that I think about it, maybe we ought to start calling them Army eagles, since the test pistols were made and purchased for the U.S. Army. And since I am retired Army, that (Army)eagle emblem is one of my favorites!

John, my dad was retired Army and one day I commented that I really liked the baseball cap he was wearing, it had the Army Eagle on it. He simply said, you keep it! I still have it and occasionally wear it cause it helps me remember him and it makes me happy!

I hear that.

Hey, you didn't "really" get an answer Thor on whether there were different dies used for the different years? (no offense John, was fishing for more answers )

Were the first eagles the same as later Stoeger Eagles? (pre-war, not after )

Ed and John, I am told the Eagle's feathers are slightly different and the head is canted a bit from an earlier Eagle. The owner reports that four engravers have viewed the chamber marking and the unanimous view is that it is a stamped marking (metal mushed out somewhat when viewed with power magnifier) not engraved. This Safe and Loaded American Eagle really has the owner puzzled. We dont know if it was stamped by DWM or someone else. Any thoughts? Thanks

Ted,
Not to imply anything about the pistol in question, but fake chamber markings are not limited to having been engraved.

I just noticed something. On Bill Stanley's 1906 AE, the bottom of the tail feathers are kinda pointed with the center tail feather forming the point just like in John's picture above in this threads, while the 1930 Stoeger AE made by Mauser shown on page 283 of Weimar Lugers by Still have the bottom of the tail feathers forming a smooth arc, not a point like the earlier eagles. Again this is illustrated on page 271, the Stoeger AE had the curved and smooth tail and on the next page the Stoeger Eagle has the pointed tail feathers. Am I looking cross eyed of not? Appears to be two different eagles to me. Looking at Lugers at Random I see a spattering of mixed pointed feathers and smooth tail feather eagles.

"Now.....Don't that make yer yaller boots blue?"

Interesting. From pictures posted on the Forum, it appears that Stoeger/Aimco copied the Mauser Eagle.

Did you guys also notice that the AIMCO Lugers Eagle crest also leaves off the field of 13 stars?
