This was a lot of magazines that was on auction a while back (I think in the Hermann Historica site, but I am not 100% sure on this...).
Notice the odd "Navy" magazine made of aluminum next to the wooden Navy magazine... If I recall, it might be a Danish magazine from the 1950's...??? Regards, Pete... |

Pete, thanks for posting the picture of all the magazines. It gives us some great examples to look at. You can see the varying depths of the concave surfaces shown on each example. Now, does anyone want to venture a guess as to the reason for this. Manufacturer? Wear? Both?
Ron, great explanation. Cold and wet fingers sure have a way of not making things easy. Thanks. Sid.

Hi Strider! There is a little varience in the depth of the concave surfaces, but with out measuring them, it would almost be impossible to decern a .050" difference in the radius... what is different, and causes the random, no two the same type of appearance, is the depth and radius of the external radius on the outside of the knob, and how much this was buffed and polished, to relieve any rough or sharp ridge... it almost appears as if this was the least important spec. on the whole gun! Till...later...GT

Pete, Strider, and GT ,...
Pete is exactly correct, The Mag's were on "H H Auction"...... About the wide variety of "Differing Contours". Do you think that this may have come about by the Old Country In Home Family Business Practice of taking Sub Contracts for Wooden Parts from the Prime Contractor of the Magazines. And by being Small Contractors that there was a wide allowance for exact dimensions as long as there was a reasonably close appearance of the parts within the contract, and the parts were not distracting in appearance from the assembled weapon ? This would be especially true In Wartime ! Wild "A" Guess ! ViggoG... |

Thanks for the reply GT and Viggo. This has been a great topic. This is what makes this forum so good. Everyday I read and learn a bit more than I knew the day before as I am sure do others. Thanks to all who help us learn more about our favorite gun. Out of curiosity, do either of you have the diminsions (plans) for the bottom pieces of the magazine? Would you be willing to share these? I like to try to do a 3D drawing of these. Let me know by PM or send an email to sgariss@bhinc.com. Thanks guys.
Sid.

Hello Sid,
If you send me your email at "pebbink@pacbell.net", I would be happy to send you a high resolution scan of a blueprint drawing that appears in one of the recent luger books. Do not want to mention name/author...as a copyright is still in place... Regards, Pete... |
