Its been awhile since anybody updated the Movie Lugers list, so I have.

I went back through all the postings and created one master list, and included whatever descriptive comments people made. The links in some of the entries take you to postings where pictures have been included.

I will maintain this list for awhile, if you have any additions or comments make them here and I will edit them into the list. If you have pictures or still frames of any of the movies listed, please post them in a separate post (not this thread) and I will add the link to this list.

The list has become too long (exceeds the single-post character limit), and so it is now split into two posts.

All Quiet on the Western Front (1931 version)
as the Germans prepare to charge from the trenches, a very brief glimpse of an officer waving his Luger. Only one in this 1931 movie, I think, and very very brief.

Anatomy of a Murder ***

Anzacs (circa 1984?)
shows a good scene where the character Pat Cleary (played by Paul Hogan) returns to the Australian lines following a successful "ratting" trip with a group of German prisoners being herded home using a LP08.

Austin Powers--Man of Mystery

Babylon 5 episode "Gropos" **

The futuristic long arms in this science-fiction series have been reputed to have Luger grip frames as part of the prop. This can clearly be seen in this episode in a closeup a "hero" prop; the rear grip is clearly made from a Luger frame, and the added-on parts emulate a toggle and the Luger 'look'.

Ball of Fire
1941 comedy with Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. End of the film features comic gangsters armed with LP08 and C96 which are fired full-auto. Lots of good shots of the pistols.

Walter Matthau with some good close-ups of his Luger in the final climatic scene (although you could not ascertain the manufacturer, you could see that the gun had strawed parts--for some reason, my wife appeared underwhelmed by this revelation). I also seem to recall from seeing the film many years ago that there is a Luger water pistol used near the beginning.

China Girl
Released in 1942, Gene Tierney, George Montgomey, Victor McLaglen (of John Wayne western movie fame as "Sgt Quincannon")

Multiple great clear shots of Lugers and holsters on a couple of the AVG fliers, and also by the main character and several others in the movie. Based on spies in China during japanese invasion and the flyboys of the AVG with a white female and male being jap spies on the AVG activities.

In one clear example, the main character "Johnny" played by George Montgomery asks to borrow the sidearm of his AVG buddy and he opens up a luger holster on his right hip and hands him the luger inside, he then uses it to threaten the jap spies at the breakfast table.......played by Lyn Bari ("Capt. Fifi") and McLaglen ("Major Weed")

Thought this was an odd movie to find a Luger in. In the early sequence Ralphie dreams of evil marauders invading the back yard. Two of them appear to be holding Lugers.

Cobb
about the great baseball player Ty Cobb. At he beginning he was riding in a car during the winter with a guy who was supposed to do CobbÃ¢??s autobiography. The car was speeding on a bad winter road, and, I think, that Cobb was doing the driving. While Cobb was carelessly driving, he was waiving an artillery Luger around. All the while I was yelling at the TV, "Don't drop it Ty, you'll scratch it!".

There was a Luger shown on that show that a vet had. What was interesting was that before the investigators went to talk to the vet they had found a 9mm casing. Nothing exciting about that but when they were looking at the stamp on it to check the manufacturer it grabbed my attention. Stamped on it real nice and pretty were the letters DWM. I had a feeling they would be using a Luger as the vets weapon.

The TV movie about the mass murderer who shot people from the University of Texas observation tower, has a scene where Kurt Russell stuffs a Luger in his jacket. That is correct because the killer REALLY did have a Luger.

Freaks ***

A movie about a freak show and crime, starring real circus freak circa 1932. During the climactic action the Half Boy holds the beautiful trapeze artist (one of the bad guys) at bay with his Luger while the climax plays out.

I am adding a link to some frames of this scene rather than posting a separate entry for it in the clear. Although I do not find it particularly diturbing, you may want to decide for yourself whether or not you want to see a picture of Johnny Eck the Half Boy.

The Great Race
with Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Jack Lemmon and Peter Faulk. We were watching it with my 10 year old son. When they were in the fictional country of Pottsdorff, I noticed all the soldiers were wearing what looked like shiny new Luger holsters. And sure enough, when one of the bad guys whips out his pistol, my Dad and I both yelled, "It's a Luger!"

Guns of Navarone

The Halls of Montezuma
1950 film staring Richard Widmark as Lieutenant Anderson the Platoon Leader.
Takes place on some un-named Pacific Island held by the Japanese.
One of the members of the platoon Pvt. "Pretty Boy" Riley played by actor Skip Homeier has a Luger he owned in civilian life (as shown in flashbacks) that he brought with him. He keeps twirling it much to the displeasure of Pvt. Slattery played by actor Bert Freed.
In the scene where they are in a foxhole together Slattery grabs the Luger and throws it out in the killing zone in front of the position
and Pretty Boy goes nuts.

Hannibal Brooks
in this 1969 comedy/drama Oliver Reed escapes from a Nazi stalag leading an elephant over the Alps to Switzerland. The evil proprietor of a private...oops, I meant the evil SS colonel...pulls his Luger from under his suit jacket and wings poor Oliver Reed in the shoulder.

The Heroes of Telemark

Hogan's Heroes ** episodes
OlÃ¢?? Bob Crane (pity about his demise) was in an Germany Army Infantry OfficerÃ¢??s Uniform and he whipped out a Luger in a flash (I was amazed the speed that Luger pointed) at an SS officer!

In another episode Ol' Bob and another prisoner are being set up by a fake resistance group run by an SS General in disguise. Lugers are flashed as hand props at various times.

Hollywoodland***

A story about the death of Superman actor George Reeves, who committed suicide (or was murdered as some believed) with a Luger. In one scene, a child says, "Superman shot himself in the head with a Luger ... That's a Nazi pistol."

TV-movie, 1998. The ice age hits the LA area and a group of survivors tries to get out of trouble. A 'German Scientist' is offered a ticket out on a ship and the group of survivors tries to guide him to his pickup point, hoping for a place on board of the ship in return.

Early in the movie the scientist pulls a luger from his briefcase and threatens the occupants of a car with it. Nice, clear luger display.

Early on... the captain of the ship dispatches 3-4 cannibals on Skull Island with a LP-08. Nice thing about the scene is that the shots are done in slow-motion and one can really see the toggle action cycle and the bullets leaving the muzzle (done digitally...). Several other action scenes where the captain also wears a black LP-08 holster on his side...

King of the Hill episode "Full Metal Dust Jacket"***
Peggy Hill opens up the "Peggy's World of Books and Guns" store, along with Dale. Dale offers a 9mm Luger along with "any purchase of quality science-fiction" to a customer, who works the toggle action which is shown properly.

Kyouju Luger P08
(from IMDB) A shy, "librarian-type" office worker in the beginning, he comes into possession of a German Luger used in WWII and turns into a vigilante type. He lives with his sister, drinks endless bottles of Evian, and practices with the gun. One wonders how much English the Japanese cast could understand, as when Abe goes in search of bullets for his gun, he winds up in a foreigner-filled bar where some vulgar anti-Japanese sentiments are hurled his way. The black fella who sells Abe the bullets is particularly offensive. On a comical note, those ten bullets sure went a long way. It seemed like hundreds of rounds were fired! Apparently this film won awards in Japan. I don't know why.

with Doug McClure. I think that in this movie olÃ¢?? Dougy baby blows away some dinosaurs with an artillery Luger.

Marines, LetÃ¢??s Go ***
At the end one of the platoons men gets captured by the Chinese Communists. He is just about to get executed and my eyes zeroed in on the Chinese leader who was going to shoot him and he had a Luger that was going to do the deed. A few minutes later in the movie, the hero had just blown up a nest of Chinese with a granade who had a plunger rigged up to a lot of dynamite that would blow up a valley that a bunch of marines and tanks were going to pass through. One of the Chinese around the plunger was not killed by the grenade and he killed the American hero just before he himself died of his injuries. The Chinese soldier shot our guy with a Luger.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil ***
Directed by Clint Eastwood.
The Luger is in a socialite's desk drawer; he shows it to the protagonist with the caution that it is loaded. It turns out to be the murder weapon later on.

The story is based on an actual crime.

Mother Night

Mrs. Miniver ***
It was made in 1942. I happened upon a scene where an English woman finds a German pilot (I assume he had been shot down) hiding in her garden. He wakes up and covers her with his Luger and makes her take him inside to get food and drink. This Luger stays in full view prominently for several minutes; long enough for me to see that the safety is off and that there is no round in the chamber! After a few more minutes, he passes out and she takes the Luger and hides it.

Never So Few
It is one of my favorite WWII movies. It is set in the CBI (China Burma India) theater. Steve McQeen carries a Luger in a tanker style chest holster. It would rate 3 stars on your Luger visability scale and 5(of 5 possible) as a movie.

The Odessa Files
A "flashback" scene has good Luger action with an SS officer shooting a decorated Wehrmacht officer during an argument.

In english it would be something like 'The Olsen Gang and Dynamite Harry' "Olsenbanden" are a series of Norwegian comedies based around the crime gang of Egon Olsen. A Luger is used in this movie.

Pan's Labyrinth

starring Anthony Quinn has some good Luger scenes.

The Patient in Room 18
in this 1938 Warner Bros. do of a Mignon Eberhart mystery, the evil proprietor of a private hospital, faced with disclosure, reaches into his desk drawer [FULL SCREEN OF Luger], fires it at the hero.

The Persuaders episode
(w. Tony Curtis and Roger Moore). A silenced luger with a frame stock.

The Pianist
It shows the use of a Luger in a rather bad setting, but it makes you kinda think about some darker parts of it's history

The Pretender episodes
In one of the scenes toward the end of the show a Luger was shown. The scene was a flashback to an earlier time and showed the bad doctor and good doctor arguing. The bad doctor was telling the good doctor that if he wasn't for them then he was against them. The good doctor refused to go along with bad doctor who suddenly pulled a gun on him and pointed it at his chest. The next scene showed a close up of the good doctor and the Luger pointing at his chest. Thought I would pass this on to add to the list of Lugers on tv and film.

There is another episode of The Pretender with a Luger. Jarrods brother in a flashback to childhood is shooting one at a target. If you look, you can see that the toggle isn't fully closing, but it continues to shoot. Apparently modified to fire blanks. The Luger is seen in several poses as the actors talk...

The Producers
Mel Brooks

Protocol
1984 with Goldie Hawn. Arab solder draws a Luger when she comes under fire. Can only assume it was a "Persian" model.

Public Enemy
1930s flick with Jimmey Cagney. His weapon of choice is a Luger carbine with snail drum. Every time he fires you hear machine gun sounds.

Puppet on a Chain
Good Luger presence in the final scenes.

Rififi
made in 1955 France and filmed in Paris.
Film-noir at its best, a heist movie with lots of French cars roaring around Paris at high speed and plenty of gun play with classic old German handguns including a Luger in the main role.

Rogue Male
a 1976 film about Peter O'Toole an Englishman that attempts to assassinate Hitler and muffs the shot. The bulk of the story is the Gestapo trying to find him in England and kill him! ONE scene with the German Dude tracking O'Toole with Luger in hand!

In one scene, Travis Bickel buys several handguns from "Easy Andy the Traveling Salesman." Andy opens up several suitcases full of illegal guns and one of them is a Luger. Travis did not pick up the Luger but there are several views of it.

Twilight Zone episode "He's Alive"***
Dennis Hopper plays a 1950's era neo-Nazi in a US city. The ghost of Hitler hands him a real Luger to assassinate another character. Luger spits fire but toggles not seem to move.

Twilight Zone episode "The Self Improvement of Salvadore Ross."***
...has a good Luger scene where a paralyzed vet shoots a man with a Luger who was wanting to marry his daughter, and also an earlier scene where the boyfriend chastises the father for having "crummy war souvenirs." The ending credits are shown over a still-frame close-up of the Luger pointing at the camera. One of the longest if not the longest on-screen view you might come across...

Twilight Zone--The Movie ***
The Luger scene has Vic Morrow (of Combat! TV fame) taken back in time to Nazi Germany after he made rascist remarks in a bar. During a scene where he is trying to get away from the Gestapo, the Nazis are taking "pot shots" at him with a Lugers while he is trapped outside a window ledge. The scene is authentic in that you can even hear the empty cases "tinkling" when they hit the ground.

at least three Lugers during the first part of the movie, in firing roles.

(1943) Bette Davis's screen husband (Paul Lukas) carries a Luger in his briefcase. It is shown several times and used to dispatch a pro-Nazi blackmailer (George Colouris) near the end of the film.

Where Eagles Dare ***
General Carnaby (actually a Corporal Cartwright Jones) was following Eastwood, Burton through the Castle with the late Major Von Hapen's Luger.

Winter People
Kurt Russell and Kelly McGillis star in this one, made about 20 or so years ago. Russell is out bear hunting with a group of guys, things get out of control and Russell jumps on the back of the bear and dispatches him with a shot to the head. Looks like a 1900 or 1906 commercial.

Without A Trace***
(CBS Series) Agent Samantha Spade shoots a man with a Luger who's about to shoot her sister.

X-Files episode "Triangle"***
Lugers are wielded by Nazis on a British luxury liner in a 1939 flashback. Lugers used in executions.

Young Frankenstein*
Police Inspector Hans Wilhelm Friederich Kemp (actor Kenneth Mars) wears a P-08 holster as part of his uniform.

Young Indiana Jones episode
The later episodes covered his exploits during the Great War. While escaping from the Germans he uses a stolen Luger to defend himself.

The Young Lions
Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and Dean Martin. This movie was pretty good. There was a scene that showed the Luger used by Brando.

Zeppelin
Shot of a luger being tucked away under a coat by one of the actors. Lots of shots of a stocked broomhandle in action as well.

Zwartboek
Coming sometime at the end of the year or early next year is "Zwartboek" or "Black book". A film based in WWII Netherlands by Paul Verhoeven (Soldier of Orange, Basic instinct, Starship troopers etc etc). This will feature at least one P08 being used to dispatch Dutch resistence fighters, I know, I [Fabian] was an extra during some scenes Didn't get close enough to it to ID it though. Got to play with deactivated MP40s, Stens, K98s, and Lee Enfield MKIVs

The film will be in the correct languages, ie the Germans will speak German, Dutch will speak Dutch, and the Americans and commonwealth troops will speak English.

Hi,

Noticed two movies with interesting Luger scenes:

'Soldier of Orange' (Soldaat van Oranje). 1977, Dutch movie, based on the memoires of Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema, a Dutchman who managed to escape from occupied territory, made it to the UK and fought back, eventually becoming the queen's adjutant.

Two interesting scenes. The first shows a German officer pulling his Luger while rounding up a group of people at a tennis court. The second scene shows an officer being bullied by a group of Dutch sailors, who try to board a Swiss vessel, totally drunk (or at least pretending to be). The officer threatens to use his pistol, shoots in the air several times.

P38 in another scene. Dutch actor Rijk de Gooyer plays a nasty Dutch police officer who works for the Germans, as part of a plan to take out a resistance cell he fakes his death with some tomato ketchup.

(Rijk de Gooyer swam across the river Waal, the border between occupied and liberated Netherlands at the end of WW2. He joined the liberation army and was part of the units that liberated several concentration camps and arrested several Nazi officials, amongs them Himmler.)

The second movie is a ZAZ (Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker) film, 'Top Secret!', from 1984. An 'East German' border guard pulls out his luger.

The latest version of "King Kong" features an artillery Luger.

The captain of the tramp steamer is a Dutch/German sounding guy who looks like a U-Boat captain.

An unarmed film crew lands on the island only to be quickly overwhelmed by very hostile, ugly natives who kill some of the party. Just as their leader is raising his club to kill an important character, his hit by a pistol shot.

Then two more. Great scene of the ship captain firing the artillery luger in slow motion. You can see the toggle action cycling with each shot.

I've only seen this once, but from what I rememberit was a petty good movie.

"China Girl"

Released in 1942, Gene Tierney, George Montgomey, Victor McLaglen (of John Wayne western movie fame as "Sgt Quincannon")

Multiple great clear shots of Lugers and holsters on a couple of the AVG fliers, and also by the main character and several others in the movie....

Didn't get to see the whole movie but based on spies in China during japanese invasion and the flyboys of the AVG with a white female and male being jap spies on the AVG activities.

In one clear example, the main character "Johnny" played by George Montgomery asks to borrow the sidearm of his AVG buddy and he opens up a luger holster on his right hip and hands him the luger inside, he then uses it to threaten the jap spies at the breakfast table.......played by Lyn Bari ("Capt. Fifi") and McLaglen ("Major Weed")

Watched it partially on either AMC or TCM today..........

Interesting side note: the little chinese boy helping "Johnny" in the movie is no other than "Robert Blake" that was accused of killing his wife or whatever she was with a WWII P38.........

On yet another side note regarding Robert Blake. About a year ago I got a P38 and upon sending the s/n to Orv over at the P38 forum, I found out I had the next gun in that serial number sequence. For a brief moment, he thought I had the actual gun, which he said would have been destroyed by the state.

A new movie, playing in WW2, called 'The Last Drop', about a group of British soldiers trying to stop the Germans from transporting various artefacts stolen from Dutch Museums to Berlin.

A small group of Germans has a similar idea, but want to get the loot for themselves. Entertaining story with lots of Luger appearance.

Spotted another luger today.

The TV-movie 'Ice', 1998. The ice age hits the LA area and a group of survivors tries to get out of trouble. A 'German Scientist' is offered a ticket out on a ship and the group of survivors tries to guide him to his pickup point, hoping for a place on board of the ship in return.

Early in the movie the scientist pulls a luger from his briefcase and threatens the occupants of a car with it. Nice, clear luger display.

Another Luger spotted in the movie "Winter People". Kurt Russell and Kelly McGillis star in this one, made about 20 or so years ago.

Russell is out bear hunting with a group of guys, things get out of control and Russell jumps on the back of the bear and dispatches him with a shot to the head. Looks like a 1900 or 1906 commercial.

Night of the Fox * George Peppard using a silenced Luger to attempt an assasination of Erwin Rommel The Notorious Landlady * No Way Back 1995 movie starring Russell Crowe. A Yakuza killer wields a luger in a number of scenes. The Odessa Files A "flashback" scene has good Luger action with an SS officer shooting a decorated Wehrmacht officer during an argument. Zwartboek Coming sometime at the end of the year or early next year is "Zwartboek" or "Black book". A film based in WWII Netherlands by Paul Verhoeven (Soldier of Orange, Basic instinct, Starship troopers etc etc). This will feature at least one P08 being used to dispatch Dutch resistence fighters, I know, I [Fabian] was an extra during some scenes Didn't get close enough to it to ID it though. Two interesting scenes. The first shows a German officer pulling his Luger while rounding up a group of people at a tennis court. The second scene shows an officer being bullied by a group of Dutch sailors, who try to board a Swiss vessel, totally drunk (or at least pretending to be). The officer threatens to use his pistol, shoots in the air several times. P38 in another scene. Dutch actor Rijk de Gooyer plays a nasty Dutch police officer who works for the Germans, as part of a plan to take out a resistance cell he fakes his death with some tomato ketchup. (Rijk de Gooyer swam across the river Waal, the border between occupied and liberated Netherlands at the end of WW2. He joined the liberation army and was part of the units that liberated several concentration camps and arrested several Nazi officials, amongs them Himmler.) The second movie is a ZAZ (Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker) film, 'Top Secret!', from 1984. An 'East German' border guard pulls out his luger.

The captain of the tramp steamer is a Dutch/German sounding guy who looks like a U-Boat captain. An unarmed film crew lands on the island only to be quickly overwhelmed by very hostile, ugly natives who kill some of the party. Just as their leader is raising his club to kill an important character, his hit by a pistol shot. Then two more. Great scene of the ship captain firing the artillery luger in slow motion. You can see the toggle action cycling with each shot. Oops, somebody already covered this!

Set in 1940's Rome, the film also explores the SS effort, lead by SS-Lieutenant Colonel Kapplar, to stop the Vatican's attempts." I've only seen this once, but from what I rememberit was a petty good movie. SteveM

Posts: 76 Thanks: 5 Thanked 2 Times in 2 Posts	Dwight, I have another movie to add to the list: "China Girl" Released in 1942, Gene Tierney, George Montgomey, Victor McLaglen (of John Wayne western movie fame as "Sgt Quincannon") Multiple great clear shots of Lugers and holsters on a couple of the AVG fliers, and also by the main character and several others in the movie.... Didn't get to see the whole movie but based on spies in China during japanese invasion and the flyboys of the AVG with a white female and male being jap spies on the AVG activities. In one clear example, the main character "Johnny" played by George Montgomery asks to borrow the sidearm of his AVG buddy and he opens up a luger holster on his right hip and hands him the luger inside, he then uses it to threaten the jap spies at the breakfast table.......played by Lyn Bari ("Capt. Fifi") and McLaglen ("Major Weed") Watched it partially on either AMC or TCM today.......... Interesting side note: the little chinese boy helping "Johnny" in the movie is no other than "Robert Blake" that was accused of killing his wife or whatever she was with a WWII P38......... Paul

Scenes of officers and e/m in headquarters and in battle scenes wearing luger holsters.........never saw a luger brandished in a scene...... HTH, Paul

The ice age hits the LA area and a group of survivors tries to get out of trouble. A 'German Scientist' is offered a ticket out on a ship and the group of survivors tries to guide him to his pickup point, hoping for a place on board of the ship in return.
