I'm finally going to lose my luger verginty

Eric, With the help of Uncle George and Cousin Jerry and 8 year of collecting luger, I now have the 1917 Artillery Drum and a box of 115 grain, white box Winchester and a range here in Port St. Lucie, Florida. I welcome any last minute advice or recommendations. I chose the second issue drum over the first for easier loading. I know Ill be addicted so I'm signing up for the yearly membership. What can I expect in fireing my artillery. Thank for the years of valued support!

Eric, when I load and use drums I only load twenty rounds. Also when firing any old semi auto pistol for the first time I only load two rounds in the magazine. I had a P38 when I was a kid that would fire the full mag with one trigger pull; it's a sobering experiance.

You will also find that you need to have the toggle train open when you insert the drum magazine.

Can You explain the 'open toggle train!!Thats great advice. I've have a few magazines on the safe side, Richie next time your down we have a guest room for both of you!

Hi Eric,

In others words, the drum excerts so much pressure on the top round that it is very difficult to seat it with the toggle closed.
The procedure;
- Pull toggle back with standard, empty mag in place
- Toggle locks open due to hold open device
- Insert drum magazine until it clicks in place
- Pull toggle back and release
- Toggle will pick up round with no stress and chamber it
- Fun begins now......

Good luck with your Arty and drum!! I just got back from the pistol range after running some rounds through my Mauser, and I still have a smile on my face. I bet I would smile even more if I had a "rig" like that one. Enjoy, and keep us informed.

That is my problem, I don't want to touch the leather and matching stock that came with Georges original rig. I do have available ones that came with my 08 Navy and 1920 carbine that would work although illegal I understand. Any suggestions!. I never gave it a thought!

Loosen the cup strap,remove stock iron cup and attach the stock to the gun;should work if you shoot righty.

The leather holster attached to the stock makes the gun much more comfortable to shoot. For my shooting trials, I ordered one of CMR's repro sets (including the stock). It fitted the 1917 DWM without modifications and it shot great.
