Speaking as one who served over 20 years, I can say that I feel like it was a distinct honor and undoubtedly the defining period of my life. Not a day goes by that I do not have memories of comrades and events, now far away, that made a distinct difference in my life then that continues to this day. Many of we who have served are simply grateful for the opportunity to have helped in some small way ensure the preservation of the last great hope for mankind. And to those who no longer answer at roll call, I both salute you and wish you eternal peace.

Thanks for your words guys... and Tom, as you said, it was my privilege to serve 20 years... and there is no honor that could describe my gratitude for those who made sacrifices for our way of life... in the past, and even today.
I was honored to be present at the award of a Army Commendation Medal for valor in combat at church on Sunday to a returned Army Specialist 4th class who so humbled by the event that he couldn't speak... Neither could I. I don't know why it is that when my eyes are wet, my mouth doesn't work very well...

Thanks John D, John S, & Tom,
I am grateful, each time that I am reminded at times like this, that there still are those who have not forgotten, "Those of us that have Served, Suffered, and Fell in The Service of Our Nation ! I just received the following from our good friend "Schwob", "Who's Son has just returned from the Mid East". In good health, "Praise The Lord" ! <><><> It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN, not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote. It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag, who serves under the Flag, ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM. I don't know if you saw this in the news but it really impressed me. Funny, our US Senate/House took 2 days off as they couldn't work because of the dangers from Hurricane Isabelle approaching Washington DC. On the ABC evening news, it was reported tonight that, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment because of the approaching storm. They refused. "No way, Sir!" Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a serviceperson. The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930. I don't usually suggest that many emails be forwarded, but I'd be DAMN proud if this one reached as many as possible. We can be very proud of our young men and women in the service no matter where they serve. God Bless them all. Bob (AKA, "Schwob") <><><> Thanks My Friend, ViggoG, "I'm Proud to be a WW-II, Veteran" !!! |

I kinda like this as a bumper sticker:
"If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you're reading it in English, thank a VET." |

Ron,
You who served through the "BAD YEARS", are True Heroes, You did your Job Under the worst conditions and did not waver from the path ! All of you who served in the face of such vindictive and open Abuse are the True Heroes Of Our Country ! It was Easy to Serve when Everyone was Praising and Reinforcing Us, I do not know how I would have accepted the treatment that you put up with and held steadfast, I personally think that I would have thrown in the towel and said to hell with it, I've got better things to do. My Utmost Respect to Each and Everyone of You who Took It and Prevailed ! YOU, THEY are my True Heroes ! ViggoG, (WW-2 Vet and son of a WW-1 Vet) |

Ron, everyone that has served has my salute, and not to knock the vet's, but there are many ways to support and serve our country!
But, as a son in law of a Vietnam Vet, he served and served admirably, as did all of my brothers and sisters that served that war and all others! Ed
