Price question for a S/42

2006 BB says $1850 + $925 (matching mag) = $2775

I don't beleive that a matching magazine adds $925 to a gun. At least not that I've seen allowed me to sell it for that much more

Blue Book is a guide, but I have found them to be either high or low on lugers; more accurate is what the market is showing, i.e. gunbroker, Simpson's, FGS, Joe Salter; (when it sells and then deduct about 35% for retial versus collector to collector)...

I guess FGS could go a little bit lower as well, but definitely won't cut 1/3.

The seller notified me that the reserve on this 1938 is $3250. The previous auctions have not gone over $3000.

I believe the seller is stretching the 99+++% a bit. There is some finish wear on several spots on the toggle where the hinge points are located. Also where the toggle contacts the frame at the rear. The muzzle also shows some wear and the grip strap near the stock lug almost appears to have a very light pitting although that may be the way the photo was shot.
I have and identical 38 S42 in equal condition but my mag. does not match although the correct one for the year. I managed to get it for $700 2 years ago.
I wish those deals would come around more often. LOL

Bob -- I call this G-B one exceptional, and a gun newer than this one, I don't know, LNIB (?) ..... Could you post a few pictures of your S/42 ? Curious about this big price gap and gun condition.

I will try to post some pix as soon as I can get some clear shots. Photography is not my strong suit. I was lucky enough to get the Luger from an older gentleman that wanted to move the pistol quickly. We agreed on a mutual price. It came with a P38 holster that unfortunately had been cut down and the Mag pouch was removed.

Bob -- Thanks for the pictures and information. S/42 is not rare, even excellent++ is not rare, but $700 is super rare. I have time, I will hold and wait.

P.S. Actually, $700 is impossible on the open market now. One guy is bidding $2600 (not me). A more realistic target ..... do better than $2600. That should be achievable.

Thanks everyone for input. Did a full day yard work, tired. Cutting corners everywhere to save $$ to put into fancy pieces. If I could find a 3-digit S/42 in Bob's gun's condition, the only question I have to the seller "how many do you have?"

I also have a 1915 DWM in about the same condition. It is also totally matching including the wooden bottom mag. I acquired that one about 34 years ago for $175.00. No one was really trying to forge anything to raise the prices back then. Good honest Lugers were a bit more common. The straw is still very strong on all the correct parts. Bores on both of them are as near mint as possible. Would love to fire them but alas I wouldn't dare for fear of causing any kind of damage.
